    MR-S11-30 Axis-Servo-Drive Dead "0" life

I was ask to look at this board to see why it would not power ON

A used servo drive run around $1500 to $2500 and from $2000 to $5000 on Ebay

The servo drive was made back in the 199_--> something
They used a good brand name caps on all of the boards

This first thing I saw was electrolyte coming out of the two 3.3uf @ 50 volts caps for the switching IC chip

One note on this it also had taken the coating off of the traces under one the two caps for the switcher IC chip
I also cleaned the board with flux remover all around where the coating had come off of the traces

When I check the IGBT modular that was on the bottom board it had some funny meter reading from one terminal to the next terminal and they were not the reading that the manual says I should have

So we ordered all of the caps that were on all three boards except the very big cap that was not ordered
We also ordered a IGBT modular for the last board and the two small IGBT modular and 8 mosfets that control the big IGBT modular for the last board

When I check the mosfets that have the same part number on them not all of them had the same reading and reading on a new one were not the same as the one on the board ------> All of the new one have the reading
The small IGBT modular s did not have the same reading pin per pin as the new one dose

I recap the two boards install the 8 mosfets the three IGBT modular one switching IC chip

Another note This board took a while to rework because this is malt-tee lair board I was using a de-soldiering gun set at 800' F
and even with that on some parts I had to hold it there for a little while before I could suck all of the soldier out of each hole

What do you know the servo board come back to life

We could not test the drive to see if it works or not because the battery for the CNC controller went dead and now all the parameter need to be reprogramed in to the controller

    Re: MR-S11-30 Axis-Servo-Drive Dead "0" life

When I check the IGBT modular that was on the bottom board it had some funny meter reading from one terminal to the next terminal and they were not the reading that the manual says I should have and the reading on the new were not even close to reading of the old one

One note on the switching IC I had check some of the pins an compared it to a new one and some reading on some pins were not even close

So from look of what I found on the main power board did the two 3,3uf cap that leaked do all of this damage ?

I will update this when we try to run the servo drive

most igbt fail either shorted or exploded in all the servo i have repaired.
and yes even those big modules explode.lots of stored energy in the cap bank.

Replacement IGBT's for LG TV reading weird
        by TURSTY
        Hi guys,

I have a LG Plasma that went bang one night.

Long story short, I took it to a "professional" shop to repair the YSUS board that was shorted and they did a half ass job.

I'm a long way down the path of teaching myself component level repair, but not 100% confident in everything yet, hence what might be a basic question.

The repair shop replaced 3 transistors on one of the two heat sinks and fixed one short, but the second set of transistors on the second sink still had a short.

        So I removed this sink...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
        by double_DD
        Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

        ps5 edm-033 dead after hdmi/usb ports destroyed
        by disorder
        hello guys,

        i need help to repair a edm-033 ps2
history : as always hdmi port and usb ports destroyed after unplugged
after change them, ps5 dead too : 1 beep, no blue light. after inspection 1.8v power was shorted, and because of dead panasonic chip. after remove it : no short anymore
        so i changed it
now i have got 5v stby,, 3.3v stby, 3.3v power, 1.8v power and no short on them
but the ps5 is dead again : 1 beep, near 10 seconds with power lines and then off, no blue light ...

i don't see any projection of liquid metal on pcb.

        Finding a dead short component
        by Beton
        Hi guys!
I searched for the term "dead short" in the forum but no specific thread came up however if I'm just blind and couldn't see the thread talking about this please forward me to that direction.
So my problem is I don't know how to find the source of a dead shorted voltage rail. Dead short = ~0 ohm resistance.
I have two VGAs (HD 4850 and HD 4870), both dead shorted to ground on the memory rail. I have the boardview file for the 4870 and the memory rail consists around ~7892346 capacitors...
I have a bench PSU and if I try to inject voltage the voltage...

        Chieftec GPS-450-AA with dead 20N60C3
        by zunasthegreat
Hello everyone hope all doing well!
I have this PSU (GPS450-AA delta oem) around for like 4-5 years and I had it recapped early 2020 or 2021 with mostly UCC KY and Nichicon PW's. The bulk was and still is fine, the original Ltec's were bloated and empty. The previous issue was some major coil whine noise and at times random shutdowns when going idle. Today it started tripping the mains breaker and I think I have dead APFC mosfets (20N60C3). Right now upon checking I have the Q1 and Q3 FETs dead so far and I guess those are responsible for the PFC circuit. The only thing I care is If there...
