laptop dead after inserting battery with reverse polarity

Gud day to all! i have this msi wind u100 netbook. after experimenting and repacking the battery, tried to insert the battery but i think i have that mistake of not making sure of the polarity. then the jack burnt and i removed it quickly.after that,i removed the battery then tried another supply but it does nothing.so i check the board and found out that this TPS ic is getting hot while the supply is connected.so i replace the TPS 51120 with good one from another board and now its not getting hot anymore but still the same.no power what soever. and i noticed that the in the DC jack area now is making heat so i removed again the supply. i dont know where is the fuse located or diodes to test it. can anyone pls help me here. i dont know how to read diagrams or schematic. pls pls help here. the model of the board is E89382 HANNSTAR J M-4 94V-00847 in MSI wind netbook U100

Do you at least have a voltmeter / multimeter?

Re: laptop dead after inserting battery with reverse polarity

        Can you read a datasheet?

Specifically, for example, see which pins of the TPS are the 3.3v and 5v LDO (low drop-out) regulator outputs. Note, these are NOT the "main" buck-regulator outputs. Those two outputs need to be ok, in order for the chip to actually start doing what it's supposed to.

After that, if those two pins / regulators are ok, check the two main rails for shorts.

Help Needed: Reverse Polarity Issue on HP EliteBook 840 G4 – Where Do I Begin?
          by Dev Goose
Hi everyone, I recently acquired an HP EliteBook 840 G4 (6050A2854301-MB-A01) that I'm hoping to bring back to life. I'm fairly new to laptop repairs but eager to learn and willing to put in the effort to understand and fix this. Any advice or guidance would mean a lot!

          What Happened
The issue started when the laptop was accidentally plugged in with reverse polarity. Before this incident, the laptop would show a power/charging light whenever it was plugged in. However, now it's completely unresponsive—no lights, no power, nothing. I've been doing some research and understand

Asus E410 only works on battery after reverse polarity
          by Kervin Mathumbu
Hi everyone. Fixed my AC and despite trying to be extra careful, I reversed polarity and got a notable pop sound. Now the PC will only work on battery. Windows still shows the battery as charging but the count actually goes down until empty (I have two of the same laptops).

I have board R3.0 so the schematics on another thread here do not match mine. I have tested the BQ charge IC and my pin 1, 2 and 3 have 3.35v each - instead of 18v or 19v. Could this be a bad BQ IC or capacitor? Any thoughtful advise sould be greatly appreciated.

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
          by double_DD
          Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

          ThinkPad T490 20N2000CSC NM-B901 no signs of life - short on 5V SMPS, ThinkEngine-3 hot - *speculations*
          by feliks912
          Attached schematic 🙂.

Laptop gives no signs of life. No fan and no CPU heat.

Think Engine BD4179MWV is hot on plugging in *AND* pressing the power button.

Discovered short to ground on VCC5M power delivery IC NB690GRP (5 volt line, not the high current VCC5M_PD) which is one of the ways that chip is powered. I'm puzzled.

Nothing else is warm on the board. CPU resistances are OK, 9V VSYS line is present from the BMIC. All misc and cables are disconnected.

What do you guys think happened? I've got two theories:

          by disorder
          hello guys,

          i need help to repair a edm-033 ps2
history : as always hdmi port and usb ports destroyed after unplugged
after change them, ps5 dead too : 1 beep, no blue light. after inspection 1.8v power was shorted, and because of dead panasonic chip. after remove it : no short anymore
          so i changed it
now i have got 5v stby,, 3.3v stby, 3.3v power, 1.8v power and no short on them
but the ps5 is dead again : 1 beep, near 10 seconds with power lines and then off, no blue light ...

i don't see any projection of liquid metal on pcb.
