    Replacing batteries with power supply

    Hi.

I am looking at replacing 4 C cells with a wall wart, because I'm tired of going to the store for C batteries. There's a wrinkle here, the unit pulls ground and voltage off 4 batteries in series, and also two in series. So, 4 batteries, three wires.

    (GND)--[- +]---[- +]-(3v tap here)-[- +]---[- +]-- (VCC 6v)

I figure I can replace it with a 6v wall wart and a dc-dc buck step down converter for the 3v circuit.

Is there anything I should be concerned with here? I think it might be a good idea to put a 12v MOV in there to protect against spikes, I imagine that batteries don't have that particular problem, so there would be no protections against it on the board.

It drives a board, an actuator and an LED display. I assume the LED is running at 3v, the rest at 6v.

    Thanks!

You might want to use a linear regulator for the 3v rail, a DC-DC converter may be too noisy, if the unit expects batteries.

For the same reason, you might want a linear transformer for your wall-wart too.

Or maybe I'm just being paranoid... lol

you need to work out how much current you need on each voltage first.
and how exactly is this 3v used?
keeping in mind the 3v supply may be referenced to the + rather than the ground.

it could even be running +/-3v centertapped.

can you foto or draw the circuit?

Desoldering gun station modified to use a 18 volt @ 20 amp switching power supply
        by sam_sam_sam
I have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump

One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy...

        Replacing 2xAA / 2xAAA alkaline batteries with Li-Ion / LiPo battery?
        by m1ch43lzm
Hi, i have this RadioShack IR thermometer Cat. No 22-170 which takes 2xAAA batteriss, I've tried with NiMH AAA rechargeables but it complains about low voltage, it flashes an "empty" battery and doesn't measure anything, even with freshly charged 2xAAA NiMH, so i have to "borrow" the batteries from my multimeter when i want to use it
I'm thinking abour replacing the 2xAAA batteries with a small LiPo battery that fits inside that space, but the voltage would be too high (4.2v)

I'm open to suggestions on whether i should use an LDO or another type of voltage...

        Cyberpower cps1500avr not charging batteries

        Hello, all.

        Cyberpower Battery Backup Unit.

I bought two new ML18-12 batteries through Amazon (They have already refunded my money for the two batteries as we thought the batteries might have been bad.)
When I got them in, they were not fully charged. I connected them to the UPS and waited 24 hours before connecting any networking equipment.
In parallel, they read 24v, but within 24 hours, the meter on the front of the unit dropped from 4 to 3 bars on the battery charge indicator.
Checking the voltage, it was down to 22v.
        I quickly removed everything...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
        by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
        by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

        Assuming...
