I prefer to use FTP. I have no need for extra wrappers and protocols. and downloaders. I hate the stub downloaders too. It's bad enough I am forced to use some of those. FTP does exactly what it is supposed to, why complicate it?

JBL Soundbar 2.1 Deep Bass PSU No DC Power Output (Detailed, w/ Schematics)
        by _AcE_
I have two of these soundbars, both with the exact same issue. The soundbars were hit by lightning and no longer power on. The PSU does not output any voltage on the DC side. When plugged into mains, the DC output is a stone-cold 0.0 volts. The AC side of the PSU seems to be functioning correctly (as far as I can tell). When checking the plugged-in PSU with my thermal camera, the OB5269CP PWM controller (U1) and the two resistors (R12 and R13) pulse on and off. These run to the positive DC side of the bridge rectifier (among other components along the way).

        There's no physical damage...

How can I be sure that my EC chip is dead?
        by double_DD
        Hi all,

As the title suggests, how can I be sure that my EC chip is really dead?

I've recently gotten into this hobby of laptop repairs, and have successfully brought back to life a couple with some easy fixes, mostly shorted caps.

Now I'm working on HP Probook 455 G8, that had some "devil" run around on 3V line, burning a bunch of stuff. Luckily I have a dead 455G7 (for spare parts) so I managed to fix it (swapped burned parts) to a point that it will charge (both on barrel jack and usb-c), but it doesn't want to turn on. There is a 3V3 on a keyboard...

Palit RTX2080 Super TU104-450-A1 DEAD or Alive ?
        by sicilianul
        Hello everyone,

I have this VGA from a customer. He said that the card worked for ~3 months, it was brand new at that time. In one day were some current intreruption from main powerline and the gpu stopped to work. He put the video card back in box but never send'it to warranty. And after 3 years here it is.

After some measurements - see photo - and both bios reflashed, the video card still not working. The GPU is getting hot very quickly, all voltages are normal, except one coil - L4L5 - which has 0V and strange 10M ohms. Also no visual damages or liquids present. One...

        Macintosh Quadra 840AV PSU
        by nicktasios
I had my Quadra 840AV (which I recapped and had working) plugged in for some time without using it and randomly decided to turn it on today. Unfortunately it did not turn on. After checking the PSU, I found out I was not getting anything from 12V, only from the 5V rail. After a few minutes, I removed the PSU and plugged it back in the electrical outlet and it suddenly started making a weird sound and soon after smoke started coming out. I quickly unplugged it. I opened it up but on first instance I didn't see anything out of the ordinary really. I later turned it back on and one of the MOVs blew...

        Asus X555LJ somewhat alive/dead
        by markuss!
        Hello!
This laptop has had a rough time by it's owner (my cousin ), I was told that it was spilled with coke several times, but how it continued to work is a mystery. Last year I was told that the laptop turned off under load and I confirmed the same thing. I had stuff to do and I left it in a corner. Months later I tried turning it on, but nothing was powering on. I took out my multi meter and I found out that the dedicated Nvidia GPU has a short to ground by putting positive multi meter probe on the GPU power coils and negative probe on the ground screw. I removed the GPU power coils,...
