PSU OK but does not turn on when connected

Computer HP Slimline s5000 System NY511AA#A2L
    Motherboard MS7525 Ver. 1.0

I received this computer totally dead. Nothing turns on.
When opened it was full of dust/dirt and I cleaned it up.
-First I removed the disc drive, hard disc and all other periferals except my monitor, one at a time, trying to turn on each time. Nothing happened.
-Next I removed the power supply and checked voltages with PSon grounded to com. All voltages OK. Reconnected and noted the power supply does not turn on when ON switch pressed.
-Checked continuity of ON/OFF switch OK.
-Jumpered PSon to com on plugged in main connector. Connect AC and no result.
    - Power supply works with 4pin 12V connector plugged in alone but not the 24 pin alone or both together.
    - replaced motherboard with new unused one. Same problem. Hope I did not damage it.
    - Ram in&out same problem.
-Close inspection of capacitors on both boards. All look OK.

Now I am looking for what else could prevent the PSU from turning on with a verified OK switch, power cord checked etc.

    - Tried anther CPU but not sure of its condition. No result.
    - measured resistance on each of the 24 pins to com. on the motherboard to look for abnormalities. No shorts. Detect capacitor charging on each active pin. Nothing unusual.

    - now I am just scratching my head.
    Would appreciate any input.

    Have you tried another PSU?

Re: PSU OK but does not turn on when connected

Could be bad caps on PSU outputs. I've had power supplies that would run under no load but as soon as you connected more than a fan or a hard disk to them, they'd cut out due to the under-voltage protect or control loop getting out of whack.

Re: PSU OK but does not turn on when connected

I need to find another PSU.
Forgot to mention. I put a 1K resistor load on each active pin of the PSU, one at a time, to try to create the problem. No affect.

Will post when I try another PSU.

Borrowed a power supply and it works. Purchased a higher wattage replacement.

Opened up PSU. 5 bad caps. Lesson learned. Checking voltages unloaded not good enough.

A 1K resistor will draw so little current that it will be about as useful as testing without any load at all.

Even on the 12v rail that is only 12mA, which for a power supply designed to supply several amps on each rail is nothing.

I chose that value because the measured resistance at the pins on the board varied from 11K down to 1.7K. Anyway the 1K on one pin at a time was not sufficient load.

That would make sense for a purely passive, resistive load - but in this case you have a complex circuit; a mixture of components with properties that change depending on their operation state and simply trying to measure the overall resistance with a meter won't get you anywhere, except perhaps tracking down short circuits.

That is the likely reason. I was trying everything I could without having a spare PSU. I would have been better off opening up the PSU and looking for faults.

                      by Ryan.man
Hello everybody! Posting this in hopes somebody has some expertise that leads to a clear path of troubleshooting that saves me a lot of time!

My macbook has the flex cable problem, the one that prevents the screen turning on. Ive been dealing with this for the last 3 years. Last year it went dead and I managed to fix it following youtube tutorials. But my fix wasnt the best, the problem returned a month later. This week, it went dead again. I again tried to fix it.

This time the original cable broke too close to the screen, it can't be fixed without tearing the screen...

                      by Junior††

                      Good Afternoon fellas,

                      Issue:
Disc is showing as not supported when a disc is put in.

Here's what I've done, you can skip this if you just wanna know the question:
                      - replaced with a disc drive from a donor ps5 (honestly questionable if this is known to work)
                      - reflowed the disc drive connector
-reflowed the chip in question (shown on image)
                      - I will say this console was very dusty so it's conceivable that it got so hot that it made the chip joints cold and potentially other things on the board

                      Question:
                      I...

Dell Latitude 5420 wont turn on when charger is connected
                      by nikolayu
I have Latitude 5420 that it's working fine on battery but when it's plugged on USB C charger it wont turn on.
Battery is charging fine. Also, if I connect the charger while laptop is on, everything is fine, it will charge.
The same thing if I connect to other USB C port.
                      Charger is OEM

MSI GF63 THIN 11UCX (MS-16R6) LAPTOP WON'T TURN ON AFTER RESTARTING
                      by RdeveLabs
                      To all the members here...

Let me tell you a little bit about what happened to my laptop (MSI GF63 THIN 11UCX model: MS-16R6) that “maybe” you know how to solve this problem.

So before this problem happened, my laptop was running smoothly. When I wanted to restart my laptop, it looked fine at first. But after I waited for this restart process to take a long time, until finally I panicked (because the restart process did not finish plus the laptop screen only showed a black screen), I immediately pressed and held the power button to force the laptop to turn off. But...

Acer Aspire 4520 won't turn on after reboot
                      by robante15
Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 4520 from a couple of decades ago and I want to repair it solely for nostalgia.

It happens that when I turn it on after having been disconnected for a long time, it turns on without problems, it tells me that the BIOS has been reset and that it will load the factory settings, if I tell it to continue, the computer turns on and everything works fine.

The moment I turn it off and want to turn it back on a second time, or restart it and try to start it again, it no longer gives an image, and it no longer responds.

                      If I remove the...
