Switching the guts of 2 psus?

    hello everyone!

i have an asus barebone that has a custom-sized psu, would it be possible to swap everything from a smaller matx sized psu. I need extra power in the barebone.

any feedback would be great. thanks in advance!

that looks like plenty of of wire to desolder, what a pain. is there anything quicker or easier. not that i am lazy, just don't have much time.

well not sure on the bare bones case psu

but if its follows standards atx wire pin out/ connectors you shouldn't have to de-solder any of of the secondary DC supply wires.
        (think they do)

If thats what you are referring to.

just a matter of de-gutting the bare bone and putting the other in.
provided it fits with no problem...

Stand offs for the pcb's are usually pressed out of the case. so these must match up or you will have to modify...i dont know the specs of the bare bone psu

So Just be careful that the pcb does not short to the BB psu case anywhere or you may well end up with sparks flying and a dead psu

Also make sure of what needs to be earthed is.

You may need to rework the mains side and yeah you could possibly be breaching some safety standard somewhere...

simple answer would be to get a bigger psu that fits but I am guessing
        1 you can't
2 expensive... cause its in a custom size case
3 you got and mATX that is bigger and want to save money...

Post a few pics of both psu open if you can

lastly heat may be an issue if what you got isn't big enough

but someone else may know if if its easy to do or not.....or what issues you will have to overcome

Just my thoughts on it HTH

        cheers

I can't buy this type of custom sized psu, or else I wouldn't of asked.

Well, I 'm now thinking of just pulling everything out of the custom psu and using it as support for an m-atx psu. Would it be better? Or could i just modify the case so it would accept a m-atx psu?

Edit: The psu is a delta electronics custom psu that measures roughly 120mm*80mm*80mm

Throw away the case and use a standard case and PSU.

I come across this situation all too often with my clients. In fact, I have two machines in my office like this, as of this writing. They both use a non-standard PSU with the fan housing protruding out the rear of the machine. The fan is the problem with both PSU, but I can't find a source for thin fans. So... the PSU is useless, and the case also.

Time is money. It is cheaper for my client to have me replace the case/psu than to spend endless hours trying to keep their non-standard gear alive.

hmm, if i throw away the case and psu, i might as well buy a new pc.

I am planning to use this barebone for a htpc and some occasional gaming. So buying a new case annd psu is not a option here.

oopps, the psu size should be 120mm(length&height), 80mm(width).
                The p/n is dps-250ab-7.
