    Network Switch 24 Port PSU Bad Nichicon Cap

    Hiya Ladies and Gentlemen,

    I've seen this thread over here from December 2008 where this guy has a identical piece of network equipment to me. (PureLan 24TP Plus 1 Fiber Network Switch)
    I have two of them, and they with seem to have bad cap's on the PSU's.

    Thing is, I seem to have a different Nichicon capacitor "model" to what he had.

    The affected caps are Nichicon 1500чF 6.3v HD (M) and have 105° written on them. Even after many hours of searching the internet and reading the old threads on here, I'm still confused as what would be a suitable replacement for them.
    I've seen a lot of people say that these model of caps don't need to be replaced and are generally fine, but these are quite obviously venting a blugging.
    I'm in the UK but don't really mind where I replacements caps come from, I would prefer to buy them over the internet but whatever gets the PSU's up and running again

    Thanks for any feedback or help provided guys

    For Nichicon HD use Panasonic FM (FR is also acceptable) or better, Rubycon ZL (ZLH, ZLK, ZLJ) or better, and UCC KZE or better.
    The affected caps are Nichicon 1500чF
    Not to nitpick but you used the wrong symbol for 'micro'. The character you used is a Cyrillic "Tz" (i.e. it produces the sound resembling combining t and z in English). The one you wanted was this: µ

      Thank you for that information.
      What about the tolerance? If I'm correct the "M" is part of the series name not the tolerance?

      I never realised there was two similar characters, µ and ч ... My apologies!
      Now I know

        The "(M)" is the tolerance, and it means +/-20%.

        M = 20%
        K = 10%
        J = 5%
        G = 2%
        F = 1%
        B = 0.1%

        I know some parts can have 0.5% and 0.05% tolerance, I just haven't seen the letter codes for those tolerances.

          Is the datecode somewhen between 2001 and 2004 on the bad one?

            It's HD, not HM or HN. The HD series was never affected, so my guess is that the device killed it.
            I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

            No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

              I think they were all three affected…at least something tells me I have seen them fail in conditions where they should not (Intel MoBos).

                Poly VVX-250 VOIP POE problem not booting fix
                by CapLeaker
                I've got a bunch of Poly VVX-250 VOIP phones that work fine as kind as long as they are plugged into the wall wart. Recently I got around to install a couple of TP-Link 5 port POE switches that are added to the existing plain Jane 24 port unmanaged switch. Great!!! Finally I am able to ditch the wall warts from these phones making more space on the desk, plus I am gaining some badly needed power outlets. So I thought.

                Plugged in the first VVX-250 into the POE switch, booted up no problem. Plugged in the other Poly phones and they start to boot anywhere from 5 to 15 seconds,...

                Micro Momentary Push Switch?
                by Natob82
                Great to be here! I'm a newbie here trying to find a "micro", momentary push switch to repair a Sony "clamshell" video walkman. This micro switch has long since discontinued by Sony, however I hope there are third-party switches of the same size and functionality that I might be able to source to play the same role. The purpose of this switch is to tell the video walkman that the user has activated the mechanical tape eject button, turning that physical action into an electronic signal that tells the tape transport mechanism to open so one can load or eject a video tape. I...

                NEC TurboExpress On/Off Power Switch Replacement Help
                by grimacelord
                Hello,

                I've been working on a NEC TurboExpress and I accidentally got the plastic inside the power ON/OFF switch too hot while doing other repairs and melted it. At first, it would still power on when sliding the switch, but you had to really press inward while sliding to get it to work.

                I removed the switch component and tried to gently melt the plastic back so it would work more reliably and all I managed to do was make it worse.

                I need to find a replacement On/OFF switch for this, but having some trouble figuring out which kind of switch I need....

                Help making a switch work the opposite way with a relay
                by SluggerB
                I have a very small float switch, I'm using in a very small tank. It only fits in one way. Link https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Switch.../dp/B07DZ1J2GB

                I want the switch to be open when the water is high, and closed when the water is low. Unfortunately it works the opposite. And since this switch is designed to be underwater, it's all sealed up, there is no taking it apart or hacking it up.

                It will be driving a water pump, basic idea, when the water is low, switch closes, which turns on water pump, when enough water is in the tank, float switch floats,...

                Cisco catalyst 2960c POE
                by madan1
                Hello everyone.

                Got a catalyst 2960 from the usual scrapyard - ebay.
                It is stuck in bootloop and the power supply is missing the 3.3v rail. (+12V, -53V, +3.3V)
                Some green moisture crystallization on mainboard, which cleared very well with IPA and visually there is nothing rusted or gone.
                Still working on the PSU to get the 3.3v rail back (waiting for parts), but for now I'm using an external buck converter board hooked up to the 12V rail ( by the way, the switch seems to be working with only 12V ).

                The switch fails to boot due to the following POST error:...
