PSU shuts off or makes weird sound and won't boot

When this PSU is plugged in, it will power on for about 10 seconds and then shut off. After that, it will make a short, weird "zzzzt" sound when attempting to power on but believe it or not doesn't sound like something frying....sounds more like a buzzer. It will not power on until unplugged but always gets a stable 5.00V 5VSB. It has plenty of load on all rails.

Here is what it looked like originally: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showpo...&postcount=646

What I did: I replaced the fake input caps with 680uF (tested good), replaced the regular ceramic discs located in CY1/CY2/CY3 with real Y caps from a scrapped monitor power board (Didn't test them though....) added an input coil from an SP450, recapped the entire thing with good caps. I replaced the secondary heatsink with a bigger one but kept the original rectifiers (I did slightly bend 2 of the rectifier legs to fit properly) The heatsink has no grounded leads, it's just sitting on the rectifiers but isn't touching anything. I originally had the minimum load resistor on the 5V rail removed, added it back and it's still having the same problem. I also took those rings off the 2 Y caps to no avail.

One of the leads on the bridge rectifier lost some of its pad, but I figured if it was a major issue this thing wouldn't get standby or power on at all.

I would love any feedback or input from you experts, thank you for your time!

Added pics of what it looks like after I modified it

Are all of the voltages normal while it's running? Is the controller or protection IC (if present) losing Vcc? Do any readings on any of the controller's pins change just before it shuts off? That Rubycon(?) by the +12V wires looks funny too (in the first picture, anyway).

I haven't checked the IC's voltage, but all of the main rail voltages test good while it is running

So it does this with load and without load?

Seems like something is triggering low voltage dropout - could be one of the control chips not getting the right power.

I haven't tried it without a load yet, so I will try that. Could a shorted part on the input filtering cause this?

I don't know, but have you checked the voltages across the primary capacitors? You know, they are Meta-Trash!

I haven't checked the voltage across the primary caps. I will get a solder shot soon...When using the paperclip trick, it doesn't shut off and all the voltages are in good ranges

Then you almost certainly aren't getting PWR_OK. Do you get 2.5V or higher on the gray wire when the supply is running?

The Power Good wire gets 5.16V when the PSU is running using the paper clip

Not sure...but it was a solder bridge causing a short, forgot to take a pic....I also thought it was a waste to have an 8A bridge in there so I took it out and replaced it with 4 diodes

                                  Good day ladies and gentleman!

I am currently trying to repair a Grundig Vision 9 37 9880 T USB LCD TV for a friend that has a weird audio problem. Basically everything works fine except for the heavily distorted sound when the Subwoofer module is connected and there is a buzzing sound coming from the PSU PCB.

This seems to be a rather rare TV so there is not much prior on topic help to be found however a service manual is available at the usual sources (Electro Tanya i.e.).

I think the PSU buzzing comes from one of the coils near the bridge rectifier but...

My Yamaha MOX8 synthesizer recently developed two issues.

Firstly, after booting up, it operates as normal. However, after about 5 minutes, the sound starts to get distorted (broken up screeching sound) almost like putting it through a guitar distortion pedal. After a while, the distorted sounds will go away for a while and comes back. At times, the synthesizer will also freeze I need to power off and on again.

Secondly, when powering off and on again, there will be times where the synthesizer will freeze during the boot sequence (freezes at the MOX8 Opening Screen),...

Asus UX3402 / Q409Z - No sound, no TPM, Boot issues: Bios flash?
                                  by i19
                                  Hi
I got an Asus UX3402 / Q409Z and after a BSOD I lost sound, tpm 2.0, and if it turns off it can take HOURS before I can boot again.

Reading here and on reddit I figured its a BIOS issue, and that reflashing it may fix the problem.

I want to use an CH341A (new model with 3.3v) to flash it.

My problem is that I'm not sure if the SOIC8/SOP8 clips will attach to the chip and hold properly? (haven't opened my laptop yet, I'm basing this assumption on a picture from the same thread I attached).

Any tips on how to connect to it? Maybe something...

                                  Hello everyone,

I'm facing an issue with a HEG-001 motherboard that is unable to complete the Second-Stage Boot. I'd like to start directly with my conclusion, which is the decision to replace the MAX77621AEWI chip, and understand if it could be a correct evaluation.

Before I dive into the process that led me to this decision, I want to mention that I have a fully equipped lab where I can perform any kind of tests.

                                  Let's begin:

Following some guides online, I tried to understand how the Boot phase of the Nintendo Switch works, and what are the...

This started a few days ago and does this about every 8 hours

After it does this it goes back to normal no bad battery icon and no weird sounds and it goes to battery backup mode so I am not sure what is going on with this battery backup

The battery backup is about 3 or 4 years old

Dose anyone have any idea on how to troubleshoot this issue I have never had a battery backup do this kind-a thing before so I am not sure exactly how to troubleshoot it and where to start
