Re: Help me get started on a middle-aged HP 'scope power supply?
That's definitely on my list of things to check, but I while I can see it trigger in free-running mode on another scope, I haven't managed to catch it in one-shot memory yet.
The weird thing is that when I see it trigger, the startup "current" (really voltage on U4), looks completely differ than what I see when it starts cleanly. This might just be because the spike is so brief and what catches the eye when it starts is the post-spike running characteristic signal, while the clamped shutdown lets the spike be more visually obvious, but it's also possible I've got some bimodal behavior going on here.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by sam_sam_samI have wanting to do this project for quite sometime now and I finally found a switching power supply that will work on this desoldering gun station ZD-915 that the original switching power supply took a shit and just was not worth trying to fix it because this switching power is not quite big enough to handle the heater element and the vacuum pump
One note when I tested the switching power supply and the voltage control board I noticed that this desoldering gun heat up much faster than the original switching power supply which I was really surprised by to the point that I might buy... -
by repair-itI am attempting to test a samsung power supply board to verify the pfc ic is working. I am powering up the board with my isolation transformer. The board turns on fine but when I attempt to connect the ground for the scope probe, it trips out the isolator. I was taught not to 'float my scope' so I am wondering if I should test without connecting the ground lead or would that be asking for trouble? Not sure how else to test, I don't have a portable scope. I could plug direct to mains power but that would bypass the safety factor.

by phuzzydayFirst of all, thank you everyone who helps others in here! You guys are treasures! Please bear with me, this may be long. I have tried a LOT.
First, my wife said the TV was turning off and on. When cold it would be fine for several minutes, then it would start resetting.
I opened it up and noted there are two main lines coming out of the supply besides the backlight., The T-Con 12V line and the main 12V line.
TRIED 1 - I scoped power coming from Power Supply while it was all still connected. I noted that just before it reset, the 12V line going to the T-Con was going... -
by dragometinTV Model: Hitachi 40HYC42
Power Supply: 17IPS71
MainBoard: 17MB95M
Panel: VES400UNDS-2D-NO3
When the set came in it was dead. Fuse was open primary side and the power mosfet was shorted. So I ordered a new power supply. Now it turns on, only displays "Hitachi" and then power off red and blue led flashing.
I had to modify the 0ohm resistors in the led backlight of the new PS like the original power supply.
Is there any variants on 17IPS71 power supply's?
