    Codegen 550w (PFC)

    Codegen 550w PSU (PFC)

Following the demise of my last 'yum cha' PSU (purchased within a CoolerMaster case) I picked up this Codegen 550w PSU, stability seemed good & the twin fans helped to expell all those nasty hot gases from within my OC'ed Barton system's case

I've only since built a s939 system based around an MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum & 3700+ San Deigo... anyway I'll cut straight to the nitty gritty, after some odd OS symptoms, I tested the loaded voltage lines only to note significant 12v fluctuations 12.19 ~ 12.31... this can't be healthy I thought

On dismantling the PSU, I found no sign of capacitor bloating on the TJ & Peace components (see pic' below) installed, construction quality really was quite ghastly (monkeys with soldering irons), so while replacing said capacitors with SamXon equivalents, I also resoldered poorly seated components

    Items replaced...

    4 x GC Series SamXon 2200uF 10v
    1 x GD Series SamXon 2200uF 16v

Interestingly there was a freakish size difference between the SamXon & 'Peace' 16v capacitor the end result of all this tinkering however was a far more stable 12.21~12.22v under 100% loading (F@H) unless you consult the inaccurate 3rd party monitoring software which is claiming 11.66 ~ 11.96v

    Re: Codegen 550w (PFC)

Hmmmm... how curious, after 6+ hours of 24/7 @ 100% the multimeter is hovering steady around 12.27v ~ 12.28v, whilst the MSI monitoring utility is indicating between 11.96v ~ 12.02v... oddly I hadn't anticipated a 'settling in period' for the capacitor refit

Still, such utilities are a compromise... I mean just look @ that supposed Vcore

Can I replace KME cap with Samxon GF cap?
      by chth96
      Hello.
I have 29inch LG CRT TV,And Yesterday,Whenever I connect AC power cord to power outlet without switch on, I heard a sound like white noise, And When I switched on this CRT TV, It sometime displayed correctly But usually It won't last more than 20 minute and The screen begin to dark and It finally did not display at all for hours..
Today,I dismantled its plastic case and discharged the biggest capacitor(400wv 470uf) which still holds 250 voltage, and I finally detached PCB from cathode-ray tube.
I measured ESR value of most of caps in PCB with MESR-100 and I found that KME(25v...

BeQuiet Dark Power Pro P10 550W PSU: Missing 5V Standby
      by peter21
      Hi there,
a friend of mine gave me a BeQuiet Dark Power Pro P10 550W PSU.

The problem: The PSU simply switched off during operation and never came back on.

      My observations / measurements:

I opened the housing and checked for obvious damage -> negative. Visually, everything seems fine.

      Lowcost power supply tester (China):
No result. The power supply does not turn on and the tester keeps off

Next, I measured the 5V standby line (pin 4) on the ATX connector.
      Result: Not present (!).

      Obviously this seems...

      Samxon capacitor esr
      by GEARELECTRONICS
      Hi all,
      I need your advice.
-SAMXON 2200uf 50V tested 0.00 esr on Dick Smith Blue Esr meter and 2027 ohm on FLUKE 179 multimeter.
      -Is this esr reading realistic?
      Thank you

LG L1715s with failed Samxon GF
      by goodpsusearch
Found monitor on my way home sitting on the pavement.

This monitor stopped working due to Samxon GF failing.

One of the caps even changed color to black from overheating. Notice that even the rubber bangs deformed from venting/overheating

It is just stupid to put caps right above secondary rectifiers and heatsink that get very hot during monitor operation.

Those 17" monitors can be found in working condition for less than 10 euros or even for free!

So, I recapped it using terrible caps and tried to install extra...

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
      by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...
