Besides the crappy choice of caps, they're usually pretty well built PSU's, but they love CapXon, which seem to be "ready to bulge within the month" edition. Do they do it just to save a few cents per unit? Even if they used a cheap brand like L-tec I think they'd last a quite a bit longer...Although the lower end FSP units seem to have terrible efficiency which just kills the CapXon's even faster...

All relatively new units I have from lower end Sparkle/FSP have all Teapo caps... The 350PN/B was phased out in favour of the 400W 400PN/B... I haven't got a hold of one yet. -

Well, at least that's a small improvement. Most of the ones I see are from 2008-2011 units. The FSP300-60GLS's fail pretty quickly even with a low load, and they are 80 plus with APFCComment

ATX-350PN I have from 2008+ are the ones with the Teapos... I've never seen the big Teapo "SC" bulged in them (THough I haven't tested them), only the two small 8mm 16v 1000 SC ones by the 5VSB ever bulge.
FSP300-60THN/350-THN had a single 35V 1000uF Capxon I believe... Also, the THN have two different revisions. One with the DM311 chip and one without.Comment

The PN an PN/B have all 10mm Teapo SC on the secondary filtering rails. With the THN model, the +3.3V rail I believe has two Teapos and that Capxon for the pi filter output. They used a 35V cap for the higher rating... It's common.Comment

The only reason I can see using 35V on 3.3V is due to higher ripple current and lower ESR. However, using a 35V cap is complete overkill!
CapXon do not last. Period. They are the worst capacitor in any SMPS. Next to Samwha. I have pulled approx 30-40 CapXons, from KM, KF, GF and GL series, and others.Please do not PM me with questions! Questions via PM will not be answered. Post on the forums instead!

I just can't help it when I see a broken / for parts PSU on eBay that's listed for cheap and looks at least somewhat interesting. Well, OK, I won't lie – on the outside, this PSU looks anything but interesting. It's a plain gray box with colorful “spaghetti cables”.
What mostly drew me into buying it is its 2x PCI-E power connectors... -

Just wanted to clear up a misunderstanding of mine (or what I expect is one). Isn't the 12V rail from the 24 pin, EPS and PCIE separated? IE if I put a power resistor on the ATX 12V pin that is not going to load, thus tell me if the EPS or PCIE rails are fine?
I was recently watching ArIs from Hardware Busters video on how to properly test ATX PSUs without using 5 figure Croma substations.
The PCB adapter he used breaks out the 12, 5 and 3.3V pins from the 24 pin and gives you banana plugs to connect to. That is a bit useless is it not? Aren't... -
Recapping the power supply board for a Samsung 305T monitor, everything is Capxon except 2 Rubycons. I can't find data sheets matching these online, so don't know what ripple numbers, impedence, etc, to look for. There are a few different looking GL series data sheet PDFs, but the listing that matches the capacitance and voltage is a much bigger case size. I've narrowed down selections with lead spacing and case diameter, and what's in stock at Digi-key

by RukyConHello again, this might be a bit of a far-fetched question, but is it possible to modify a 36v and a 48v power supplies to output 12v? Both power supplies appear to use the same topology, they both also have a dedicated 12v winding wired to the control chips, meaning that as soon as i change it so the main output is 12v, then the dedicated windings will not be able to output 12v, meaning it will not start up. However, if i were to then take the main output and tie it to where the dedicated 12v output would go, then it should be able to run fine?
