Single phase to three phase supply

    Hi guys!

I have a motor inverter for repair with input supply at 440VAC / 3 phase. But there's only a single phase 220VAC at my house. How can I make the conversion to three phase?

I came across with the phase converter or rotary converter at the net but I'm not very sure about it.

    Thanks for your feedback!

    3-phase delta or wye?
But no matter what it is, it is not cheap and depend on VA requirement.

My friend built a converter to run a 3 phase radial arm saw. It used a 3 phase motor sitting on the floor to generate the third phase. A control box with a couple buttons and lights contained some capacitors and relays that when activated would approximate 3 phase for a few moments to get the motor turning. Once rotating, the winding of the third phase acted as a generator.

Re: Single phase to three phase supply

Easiest way is to run a single phase motor connected by a belt to a three phase generator.

Trying to do it electronically costs a LOT of $$.

Here's an important question though. When the power enters your inverter does it go immediately to a three phase bridge and then to a set of capacitors? Does it get immediately converted to DC? (happens a lot if the unit is running a servo)

I've repaired quite a few three phase unitss that did this and if the initial stage just converts it to DC then all you really need is 440V. I take a transformer that'll accept 220V in and up to 560V out and connect the output ti L1 and L2 and ignore L3. The units will work but not at full load, I just test them with an unloaded motor.

JayArr, I think you just gave me a great idea about a step-up transformer. I'm gonna try it.

          Thanks a lot!

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?

I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

            Assuming...

Modification to a ZD-987 desoldering/soldering station using a external switching power supply
            by sam_sam_sam
I have been working on this concept for quite some time now with limited success but recently I found a switching power supply that is setup for the voltage that this soldering station needs to operate at however it also needs part of the secondary circuit from the original switching power because you need several voltage rails

I once tried to get a ZD-915 desoldering station to work on a 18 volt battery power supply but unfortunately things did not go well but I did find a work around but I might try this idea again but going at a little differently more about this another time...

Hi, Can we use SMPS Bench Power Supply for Laptop troubleshooting?
            by shamsudeen
Hi all, I just need to know that, can i use SMPS type power supply to test and short circuit detection on a laptop motherboard?
I saw 95% of repair guys are using only Linear bench power supply. linear bench power supply is pricy, thats why i planned to get one SMPS supply.

i know that in linear power supply the noise will be very low comparing to SMPS supply....

            LM358 LM358S-13 Datasheet
            by Document Archive
The LM358 LM358S-13 consists of two independent, high gain, internally frequency compensated operational amplifiers which were designed specifically to operate from a single power supply over a wide range of voltages. Operation from split power supplies is also possible and the low power supply current drain is independent of the magnitude of the power supply voltage.

Application areas include transducer amplifiers, dc gain blocks and all the conventional op amp circuits which now can be more easily implemented in single power supply systems. For example, the LM358 series can be directly...

Definitive technology SC 2000 subwoofer amp's power supply clicking and popping
            by JimBanville
The sub developed a constant popping every couple seconds from woofer and power LED flickering with nothing but wall AC connected. Connecting an audio cable didn't change anything. It doesn't play but a second or two of audio in between the pops.
Opened it up and discovered the power supply is making a faint clicking or ticking sound.
I measured the amp's output to the woofer and it pulses up to 50mv DC to be driver. The pulses coincide with the power supply ticking/clicking.
I measured the power supply output going to the amp board and it too has this pulsing. Voltage cycles...
