• Pioneer PDP-434PU, no picture or sound

    Hi All

This is a fourth gen Pioneer unit similar to the PDP504.

I've downloaded the manual but I'm having a hard time deciphering the "code"

When I press the power switch the red 'standyby' LED comes on then goes off then the green 'on' LED comes on then goes off then back to the red. It just keeps alternating between the two of them,

How would you read that? Does the Standby red LED always come on first followed by the green blink code - meaning this is a "one blink Shutdown"?

    One blink shutdown seems...

    Thanks Diff

    I'm using a GQ-4x4 like this one:

    https://www.ebay.ca/itm/PRG-1117-GQ-4X-V4-GQ-4X4-Willem-Programmer-Light-Pack-ADP-033A/111726176596?hash=item1a03662954:g:EiMAAOSwi6dcIWzN

It doesn't show it in the pic but there is an external power supply so that the USB power isn't relied on. The trouble with USB power is that it varies from computer to computer, motherboard to motherboard and sometimes the front ports have different rated regulators than the rear ports. It's a...

    Thanks Yokoono

The sticker on the mainboard has these numbers:

    222-110505001
    TV 222-110418005-v420h2l01

Where would I find the panel number and can you point me to where I'd look for a file? I've already searched this forum and came up empty is there somewhere else on the net to look?

As far as reading the IC off board with freeze spray, I'll give it a try, I've got to remove the old one anyway I'll take it off carefully instead of cutting the legs.

    That said,...

  • Haier L42B1180 - solid blue light, EEPROM problem

So my reading on these forums suggests that a HAIER with a solid blue light that won't turn on probably has a bad EEPROM at U11.

Shop jimmy doesn't have one for my main board (looks the same but numbers don't match)

I ordered a replacement EEPROM from Digikey.

If I put it in blank will the CPU fill it up on forst POST or do I need to pre-program it?

I'm lucky in that my set is still intermittantly working but I've read the EEPROM multiple times and can never get my programmer to "verify" it so I don't know if what I'm pulling...

  • How do you remove/install LCD panels from TV?

So, yesterday I dinged an LCD panel on a rack and cracked it, the TV was a write off. I noticed there was a LOT of flex in the glass as I took it off the TV and turned to put it on the rack. I was moving too fast because the amount of flex worried me, I didn't want it to crack, and I wanted to get it onto a flat surface for storage while I changed some lights, unfortunately my haste caused my fear to come true.

So. how do YOU move the LCD panel when you need to get to the LED lamps?

My process so far, (I've only done this a half dozen times,) is to:

OK, I got this one fixed. Turns out it was a couple of lamps and I learned something new.

I thought that if I had bad lamps that by removing the connectors to the backlights I would remove the problem and the set should come on without a backlight. Not so with this unit. Unplugging the backlights actually causes a 'one blink' error. I guess the PB board is watching for both shorted strips and open strips. There are two ICs for the 9 strips and each strip of LEDs has it's own transistor to turn them on.

So I had two bad LEDs and...

    Thanks R_J

I had a chance to get back at this set again last night. Your instinct was correct, there is no signal from the main board when I press the power button.

I followed the stby power in from the power supply and it goes to IC5000 which is an AN34044AA IC that has several regulated outputs. When I follow the Panel_mains_on signal from pin 1 it leads back to the large BGA IC, IC8000 which would be the main microprocessor.

So my guess is that IC5000 is not working and so IC8000 has no supply voltage...

Bummer. The STBY circuit is fed straight off the PFC circuits on this one and the block diagram indicates the PFC works in stby so long as it detects AC. I was hoping it would be that easy.

I've also noticed that I don't get a relay click. There's a 15 ohn 5W resistor accross the relay contacts for stby but it's not clicking, I tested the relay itself and it works and the contacts only have .02 ohms resistance so I'm wondering why it's not turning on.

  • Re: TV sometimes doesn't power on.

Capacitors are cylindrical things, they may stand on one end and look like the capitol records building in LA or they may be monted on their side and look like a chunk of pipe with two wires that come out one end and turn down into the circuit board. They are usually marked on the circuit board with a C, eg: C352, C456 etc. If you don't know what they are I'm betting you don't have the equipment to test them to see if they are good. You could replace all of them but there may be a couple of dozen by the time your'e done and that's a lot of soldering...

  • Panasonic TC-P50GT50, Won't turn on.

    Hi All

It's officially Panasonic week here at JRElectronics LOL I've received five in a row, one repaired and four left. I don't normally even repair TVs but it's bad PR to turn away the work, I'm the last shop left in town. Besides, I like Panasonic and I like plasmas, I wish more people would buy higher quality stuff and have it repaired when it breaks.

This one won't turn on, no lights at all and no flash of screen.

Measuring 5V STBY it's only 4.5V so I moved up to the PFC circuit and it's only 169V. Those PFC caps are rated at 450V I would have...

  • Panasonic TC-55CX650U

    Hi All

I've got this 55" that flashes on power up but then goes dark.

The red indicator light comes on steady when I apply power and the screen flashes on and I can see a graphics box that says something (looks like a typical blue on grey Panasonic message box) then th screen goes off (lamps off) and the indicator light begins a sequence of a single flash followed by a one second pause.

I've attached pics of all the boards and I've started with the main board, I have 5V on the SRV-5V test point but nothing on SRV-16V and SRV-400V can be as high...

  • Re: TV repair workshop advice please

I would arrange my test gear and tools to be stationary and the tables or desks that you put the TV on should be on wheels, that way you don't have to carry the TV as much. It would be great if we opened up a tv found the problem and fixed it all in a couple of hours but the reality is that it often has to be stored somewhere while we get parts or boards and unless you have enough space for a bunch of tvs to just lie around waiting you need to move and store them. TVs are pretty resilient when assembled but they get flimsy with...

  • Re: Panasonic TC-P42C2 - No HDMI

    Hi Unspun01

I replaced BGA ICs for years on motherboards and was pretty good at it but when boards get below $100 the profit is too small and I sold my IR machine and all of my re-balling stencils and gear last year. I still have a 180X microscope that I do all of my tiny SM soldering under so removing individual tiny sm devices is not a problem.

I see 5 programmed ICs on this board so now it will be a matter of figuring out which controls what.

    IC8004 - EEprom - MCU
    IC8502 - Flash - T-con

  • Re: Panasonic TC-P42C2 - No HDMI

    Thanks Unspun01

I've removed L4512, the 47K resistor and the TVSS from the board and there is no short on TP4505 but there is still 25 ohms to gnd on the scl line to the IC so I'm pretty sure the problem is in the IC. The scl line on the other port does not have this low reading.

There is an old trick of applying a DC voltage to 'clear' a short and I may try it after I've replaced the board (once I have nothing to lose) if I can blow out the short on this port maybe the other one will start working, it's risky, I could...

OK, here's an update, I checked all of the regulator circuits that Unspun01 listed a couple of posts back, everything was OK.

Then I started to trace out 5V on pin 18, this is a reception point not a supply so it's only there when you plug in a live HDMI cable. That was also working.

I started following that 5V back towards the Q4501/2 that was suggested and I noticed that on one port the SCL line had only 25 ohms to gnd. I removed some components and traced it back and the problem is inside the TCon IC itself.

  • Re: Panasonic TC-P42C2 - No HDMI

Thanks Unspun01, I'm sure the TP-42C2 is just the Canadian version of the USA TP-42U2 so the manual should be identical. I'll try to work through all these regulators tonight and see if I can find one that has quit.

Also: Thanks R-J, I'm looking into that site for my programmer.

  • Re: Panasonic TC-P42C2 - No HDMI

    Hi Budwich

OK, I understand now. The source works, it's an old Boxee Box and it produces a signal on the set on the other bench, this is also the fault the customer brought it in for.

The set doesn't acknowledge anything at all.

The same IC (8001 - NILE TCON) processes both the HDMI and the composite video signals. Since comp vid works and I have rarely seen "part" of a processor IC fail I'm leaning toward some voltage regulator failure. There looks to be three regulator circuits in the top right...

    Hi Budwich

Only two HDMI ports on this model and neither one works.

I'm going to have to spend an hour with the service manual and my meter looking for a missing voltage line.

  • Re: Panasonic TC-P42C2 - No HDMI

Thanks Budwich but it's been unplugged for a week already.

I tested the lines from the power supply to the main board and all the 15V and 5V voltages are there so I think you're right. I'll have to test all the little regulator ICs on the A board.
