Re: Thermaltake TR2-500 Primary cap bad?
Yup. They aren't as bad as Fuhjyyu and GSC/Sacon, but they are still to be avoided. They are about on par with OST and CapXon.

So Teapo really is just another of the many Taiwanese manufacturers of crapacitors.Leave a comment:

I hate teapo.
Also check the caps near the PFC Coil plug. They have two very hot resistors near them and can also go bad.Leave a comment:

Thermaltake TR2-500 Primary cap bad?
This power supply powered a c2d 6400, 2x512MB DDR2, Sapphire X1650 PCIE, WD SATA 200GB 7200, DVD-ROM, DVD-RW, Hybrid PCI TV Card and 2 led fans without a problem for 5 years.
My friend brought it to me to upgrade the RAM and take a look at it. I checked the voltages and they were all ok. It passed every test that I did to it. There are no bad caps on mobo.
So, I opened the psu to take a look inside, being confident that everything would be ok.... I was wrong. There are 2 TEAPO 820uF 200V primary caps and 1 of them is bulging. I pushed the top of the cap with my finger but it doesn't get flat like the other...
Why that cap failed?? There is no APFC, neither high frequency ripple, the input filtering is great and the capacitor is a Teapo, not some fuhjyyu or Capxon...Last edited by goodpsusearch; 04-08-2012, 07:16 PM.Tags: None

by bauto601Back in 2020 i bought a (2nd hand) compact ATX psu to replace my current one. My PC case only fits very short ATX power supplies so i didn't really have the choice of buying a decent 80Plus unit. The current unit is a modded YoungYear unit that i made a thread about a while ago:
A "nice" YoungYear unit? - Badcaps
The "new" unit is a KDM-M6480 480W psu, the 480W number is a typical KDM bullshit claim of course, but the 24A rating on the 12V rail seemed reasonable and the "Active PFC" claim gave me a bit of hope that this was going to be decent-ish.... -
by iMicHi folks,
I have a couple of IBM NetVista desktop computers from around 2000-2001. They have Universal Scientific Industrial (USI) Pro286i motherboards, 733MHz Pentium III processors, and a whole bunch of bad Teapo capacitors. One board has visibly bad and venting capacitors, while the other doesn't look too bad so far.
The board with venting caps works fine, while the good looking board occasionally refuses to power on unless it's left for about 30 seconds after connecting the power - even with a known good power supply. (I am however aware I'll need to check the PSU...3 Photos -
by momakaNormally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow.
But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though.
I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...

by dicky96Hi guys
I have a faulty Xilence ATX PSU here
The fault basically is I have two short circuit power transistors on the primary side of the large SMPS transformer - they are 2SC3320.
There is another smaller transistor on the primary side C3866 which tests ok
The PSU has three transformers - it looks like the 2SC3320's drive the big one and the C3866 drives one of the small ones. There is a separate PFC PCB with it's own controller and MoSFETS
There is also a short on the 3.3V output and a near short on 5V - I suspect this probably blew... -
by momakaI recently acquired a ThermalTake Smart M Series M850W (model SP-850AH3CCB) power supply. It has a blown primary cap, blown fuse, and shorted 5VSB MOSFET. Now, if the primary cap was a cheap Chinese or Taiwanese brand, I wouldn’t have been surprised. But the primary cap is a Panasonic HD 400V, 470 uF cap
and the rest of the PSU also has quality caps (mostly Chemicon KY and KZE). The PSU barely has any dust in it as well. It looks almost new, actually.
So, has anyone seen this type of failure before? Did the APFC overshoot and cause the 5VSB FET and fuse to blow? Or was... - Loading...
