    Power Supplies with good caps

Anybody knows which power supplies to consider (and which ones not) in terms of quality of capacitors used ? For a MOBO you can open the box/packing and look at the capacitors to see which mobo has what caps but for a psu you'd only know from people who have had a chance to open one and looked inside. Anyone has any information regarding this ?

Zippy/Emacs, Lite-On/Ablecom/Supermicro, Delta, AcBel/Coolermaster/Asus, Etasis, and Seasonic seem to be the best for caps, though Seasonic doesn't always use the good stuff. Often the cheaper the PSU, the better the chance it will have less reputable caps in there.

Most of the time Chemicon turns up in the above units, though I have seen something like a Capxon or two for the smaller caps.

BTW, Silverstone PSUs are made by Etasis. At least their ST30NF fanless is. So we don't need to worry about caps failing ion that PSU.

Does anyone know what Antec and Herochi (HEC) use ?
Also what about Sparkle/Forton-Source/Powerman (FSP, SPI, powerman) ?

Only some are - most are Enhance. The Etasis models are the fanless one you mentioned, Zeus ST56ZF (Etasis EPAP-560), and upcoming Zeus ST75ZF.

Antec uses OEM Channel Well units for most, Seasonic for the Neo HE line. Channel Well loves Fuhjyyu with the odd cap being Teapo or Capxon, while the Seasonics used for the Neo HE's are mostly Teapo. Thus my comment about Seasonic not always using the best. Some old Antecs were HEC/Heroichi/Compucase as well.

Fortron-Source varies... they seem to shift between cap makers. My FSP530-60GNA is all Teapo, while my FSP600-80GLC is mostly Capxon with a few OST. Low end models have had the odd Fuhjyyu and Jamicon in there too. Usually their units are quite reliable despite the choice of cap.

Note that Inwin Powerman is no longer Fortron - they make their own now. All OST caps from what I've seen.

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?
                by Tynan Dill
I was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.

Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.

I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.

The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.

With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

                Assuming...

                Heathkit IO-4205 Power Supply Caps
                by eryjus
                Hello,

First, I am a complete noob with high voltage stuff. I'm learning, but I need help by someone looking over my shoulder.

I recently came into posession of a Heathkit IO-4205 5MHz Dual Trace Oscilloscope. The documentation is copyright 1978. I'm told it works.

I opened it up to check the caps before I applied power, and found the following black caps and wanted to know what they were. They are on the power supply board. I was able to read the name and model and came up with, "Nytronics 162J-1, 0.1uF, 20% tolerance, 2000VDC."

                Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74 power issue
                by GLISIT
                Hi all,

TL;DR - this laptop is driving me nuts with the oddball power-related behaviors. Appreciate any insight you can provide!

I'm experiencing a power issue on an Asus Probook P5440UF-XB74. Although I've worked with electronics and computers for decades, this is my first attempt at getting into motherboard-level component troubleshooting. Any help the community can provide is greatly appreciated!

A few weeks ago I was using the laptop (on battery power) for a Zoom meeting. The battery was running very low (long meeting) but I wasn't worried about...

                good morning all,

i purchased a used dell e6540 laptop used 10 months ago from a vendor on ebay. intel i-7 processor, 16 gb ddr3 memory, 256 gb ssd., mobo la-9413p (rev 1.0 dated 2014-08-04). i've inflicted no damage on it since purchase but its past is unknown. starting 2 weeks ago it began to fail to boot (initially 9 of 10 boot attempts failed, now 10 of 10 fail). there was no new hardware or software added (i was using as a kodi video server). the post process doesn't complete and booting no longer displays the dell logo screen - screen remains black with no backlight. some other...

Samsung UN60EH6000F Black Screen, Backlight and Sound Good. Power Cycle Returns Picture
                by Mgiffune
I have a 60 inch Samsung UN60EH6000F flatscreen TV. The screen went black a few months ago Sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. I replaced the TCon board with a used board purchased from Ebay. It worked fine for a 3-4 months, then the screen started ‘fading' back. Once again, sound is good, backlight is good, no menu. However, this time the picture looks fine for about 10-15 minutes, then fades back. If I power cycle the TV, the display reappears, for another 10-15 minutes, then fades black again. Repeatable ever time.

I ordered a supposedly ‘new' Tcon board this time, and
