What are "for audio" capacitors ?
I am seeing most major capacitor manufacturers have come up with a different series which are marketed as "for audio". Like Muse. What exactly is special or different about these capacitors then the rest ?

Re: Where to get Nichicon HZ ?
Topcat, can you source Rubycon ZLG for me ?
Big Pope, are those Samxons on your website the only ones you can get ? or can you get for me any samxon I want ?
Typically I am looking for 470uf, 220uf, 100-150uf, 10uf all in the 10v-25v range. It maybe not be more than 10-15 in quantity 'total'.

Re: Where to get Nichicon HZ ?
PeteS, I couldn't find their catalog but here's what I am looking at - CS is on top -

ZL's arn't bad though. I didn't check all values but 470/16v ZL's are pretty close their FM counterpart.
ZL is second from top.Re: Where to get Nichicon HZ ?
...
ZL's

Re: Where to get Nichicon HZ ?
I dont claim to be an expert in capacitors and PCs but I really wouldn't put those capacitors (Nichicon HZ, H...) in a PC, let alone a PC power supply! because of their 'standard' endurance(life/hours) rating!! Guess what happens when they run 'continously' in a relatively hotter environment ?
Anyway, the psu already has Rubycon ZL. Its just that they cheaped out on the size/value(uf) of the capacitors. The player could use some help there so I am bumping up the values. I was all set to use Panasonic FM when I ran into these caps that...

Where to get Nichicon HZ ?
Wait! I know there is a sticky in the faq about 'where to buy' but before you delete this thread hear my case!
None of those vendors have these caps. Either they dont have the series or sell them in bulk quantity (500+) only!
Can anyone tell me where I can find these caps in retail ? I am looking for some 470uf, 220uf, 100uf in 10v to 25v range. Maybe 10 in total.
Nichicon HZ. but HC, HM, HN will do too.
Chemicon PS, PSA, PSC.
These have ESR in the order of 10milliohm (for a typical 470uf/10-16v cap). [I]If you know...

Re: Elcon ?
actually its not about stress or ratings. Its about ESR and inductance. In the audio signal path Low ESR, Low inductance capacitors are recommended.
So no I not at all worried about their bulging or blowing up, I am mostly interested in knowing about Elcon's quality in terms of esr & inductance.

Elcon ?
What the heck is elcon ? Did a search on the forum but didn't turn up any results!
Anyone know are they good ? or bad ? or so-so ?
My Turtle Beach Santa Cruz soundcard is littered with these, with a few exceptions of G-Luxon and Lelon - both of which turned up in the "list of bad caps" thread

Re: Power Supplies with good caps
Does anyone know what Antec and Herochi (HEC) use ?
Also what about Sparkle/Forton-Source/Powerman (FSP, SPI, powerman) ?

Power Supplies with good caps
Anybody knows which power supplies to consider (and which ones not) in terms of quality of capacitors used ? For a MOBO you can open the box/packing and look at the capacitors to see which mobo has what caps but for a psu you'd only know from people who have had a chance to open one and looked inside. Anyone has any information regarding this ?

Re: Who makes MOBOs with the best caps ?
I dont think that's a problem. Changing the type/quality of the caps doesn't affect anything. Audio hobbyists do that all the time especially with older equipment or for upgrading existing equipment. In fact in most cases higher values and rating are used on purpose and that doesnt affect anything. Lower values and ratings might hurt but I dont see any reason why anyone would do that.
For example, if I were to recap my soundcard I would change all the 100µf caps with 330µf or so and bypass the supply rail...Last edited by CON; 03-15-2006, 10:15 PM.

Re: Who makes MOBOs with the best caps ?
it seems like it is easier to cap mod a mobo than a soundcard. I also emailed badcaps.net service some time ago to ask if they will cap mod a soundcard but haven't heard anything yet. Are there members here who would be willing to do a cap mod on a soundcard ?

Re: Who makes MOBOs with the best caps ?
Thanks for the responses guys.
funny you should mention that. The next topic/thread I was going to start was about psu caps! So here we go - which psu's have good (or bad!) caps ?...

Who makes MOBOs with the best caps ?
Hi, this is my first post. Imagine my pleasure when I found this site/forum while searching for "luxon" on yahoo/google to see how good these caps are.
Basically we think alike!!
Although my reasons for searching for "how good these caps are" was slightly different. I am a diy audio enthusiast and currently working(planning) on setting up a good pc with audio in mind. As many of you might already be knowing, Caps play a big role - probably the biggest factor after circuit design - in the quality of the sound. Secondly, the choices of caps I saw on this...
