    I-Star PSUs

    Anyone know if these power supply's are any good can't really seem to find much information about them, although they do look like very good quality from these two picks I found.

        its a server psu, if you really need that 800w then ok. i cant see what the caps are to tell you about the longevity. It is definitely something nice but quite expensive. $289

        the supermicro provides more current on the 12v for around $145 and less watts 645. although might be passive not active

          Hi Emacs,

          I've often come across listings for I-Star PSUs on Japanese catalogs, these sometimes being included as units for server/workstation barebones - so one would at least expect them to be of good quality. Then again, I've never come across one in real life, or seen a detailed image of the "insides" of any of I-Star's nonredundant power supplies, so what I'm saying is nothing more than an uneducated guess.

          Note also that the same two images you linked appear at the bottom of the page for virtually every I-Star unit that site has on sale. The file name seems to imply that the picture represents the 550W unit, but who knows?

          That's my pictures' fault actually - I'll post a few more images (including top-down) in the other thread for better clarity. It is very much an Active PFC unit - by means of the usual auxiliary PCB - and designed for "universal" input voltage (officially listed as 100-250Vac).
