Cap ID help?

Hey guys (and gals? )

My Netgear cable-modem/WLAN router (and my neighbour's) has been acting up (in my case, the wlan dropping / SSID just disappearing; neighbour's cable connection dropping). So today, we opened mine up - i was suspecting crap caps.

Trouble is, no manufacturer logos, no series codes, no nothing. Just date code, uF value and voltage

I'm attaching two photos (with / without flash), maybe some of you can figure out who made'em. The markings are dark pink / magenta / purple / whatever-you-wanna-call-it, so not black or blue or red. And they're all through-hole caps (no smd 'lytic "mounting base")

Looking forward to hearing some opinions...

If I am correct those are polymer caps and not likely to fail.

My guess is the problem lies elsewhere.

Those are Enesol "Enecap" capacitors. You may try digging around their website to get some sort of ID on those series... I haven't had any luck so far.

Open up the AC adapter and check the caps in there... Alternatively, you can try it with a different AC adapter and see if the problem goes away. All the router AC adapters are basically the same but with different connectors. Low volt and typically 2.5 amps.

That company only makes polymer, no Lytics.
Shouldn't have to worry about the caps.
Which is good because I dunno how to ID the series.


As you cans see in some of the photos in the catalog they aren't always so good about marking the series on their caps.

I noticed, but even in those awfully fuzzy photos in the catalog page headings, one can still clearly make out FOUR rows. As you can see in the photos, mine have only three (date code, uF value and voltage).

Go look again.
About 1/2 of them only have 3 rows.

In fact I can't find a single -photo- showing 4 rows in their catalog PDF.

Slight apology, my fingers got ahead of me.

What i meant was, in the "Markings" section of the catalog pages, for each of the series, it clearly shows FOUR rows (date code, series, value, voltage), despite the pics in the page headers. Go figure

We'll, I did say look at the PHOTOS in the catalog.
I didn't realize you were talking about the drawings.

Yeah, sorry about the mix-up.

But i'm guessing the drawings "should" be more "real" than whatever pretty-coloured photos might be on the page headings. Or maybe i just have next to no clue how marketing works?

I think the 4-row in the drawing is what they intended to do but then Long Duck Dong [formerly of the Procurement department] ran out and blew all the printer money on 3-row printers.

Also imagine how small the writing would be if it was on 4 rows.

considering this is a rare case of a router with all polymers, something I have never seen, your problem is likely to be somewhere else. Is there a firmware update? have you tried doing a factory reset?
