    Recommend psu thread?

Hi, I was looking for a recommended psu thread but didn't find any (perhaps I'm blind). Will the forum ever get one or doesn't it make sense in doing so?

    Regards

If you have a power supply that is "burned up", here is a thread that tells you how you can fix it.

      https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=9660

So don't throw away a power supply just because it has some burn damage.

To answer the original question - this is a repairs forum not a hardware review site. You can find reviews at Hardware Secrets, JonnyGuru and so on. Both sites show you the power supply guts, so when you see in a review PSU a cap brand that was mentioned as bad here, you look for another one.

The problem with review sites is they only see brand new units.
Fuhjyyus work fine when brand new but often sh*t themselves in 3-18 months.
Any other part [say some new controller IC] could present a similar problem at some point in the future.

Reviews for Antec TP-2 [and various other CWT / Fuhjyyu builds] were glowingly positive on all the review sites yet they turned out to be total crap.
          That's just one example.

Don't ever buy a brand new model of anything.
Wait until it's been out for at least a year then scour the web in search of complaints.

20 year old Kenmore refrigerator ice maker bad water valve coil took a crap
            by sam_sam_sam
I got lucky that when I got home and was about to get some ice out of the ice dispenser I hear and see water running down the outside of the ice dispenser what the heck is going on here

At first I thought that the ice dispenser mold was cracked so I brought a new ice maker because this one has been in there for about 10 years now

Well I put the new one in and wait and I wait for the water valve to open and let water in no such luck well there is a way to check the function of the motor and the water valve on this ice maker just need a jumper wire “L” to...

            Recommended replacement cap & voltage
            by aurgathor
I have an older SFF Dell (GX620) that I want to turn into a router, but it has a few *really bad* looking electrolytic caps (4x 2200uF 6.3V & 1x 1800uF 6.3V) that need to be replaced first.

            Questions:
            1. What are some the recommended caps for these values? (I will probably order from digikey)
            2. Looks to me there is enough space for slightly bigger caps -- would I gain anything with respect to longevity by using 10V caps instead of 6.3V caps? (I guess I probably need to look at the current voltage with a scope since I do not know the nominal voltage of that r...

            ATX brown wire sense range
            by harp
I thinking to modify some ATX ver 1 supply, and wonder what if I connect 10k pot on 12v and center tap on brown wire? What range of 3.3v correction can to expect, or something will blow up if I close to rails, leave narrow 3.3v range?

It is KA7500B ic, but 3v3 sense is connected to TL431, I am not sure there is any connection between.

            Replacing a Current Sense Resistor
            by Darren Hibbert
            Hi.

            Quick question.

I have a laptop that is completely dead. I opened it up and it looks like the current sense resistor is blown. However, because it's blown, the value printed on the top has disintegrated and there is no schematic available for this particular laptop (Dynabook Portege) so I'm not sure what to replace it with.
