That's most like it. Samxon has few mid to shit lines and than good lines. But lately I see also general purpose caps from japanese manufacturers failing, seems that they are not indistructable and can't handle when they are pushed over limit. I expect the same from Samxons GP caps.

So I took one of the 2 cx430 v2.3 that I recently bought out of the case to view the caps, and from what I can see through the grill / vent holes, its not even as good as samxon... its all crapxon except for the main DC cap, which is panny M series cap.

I don't know any crapxon series' but I doubt it matters much, but if anyone cares of the 4 I saw 3 were green with gold writing, and one was the classic black with white writing that I replace 9/10 times I see any.
Fixed so far 12 lcd's , 1 plasmas, 5 monitors, 0 dlp's (plan to keep the dlps at 0). and 3 atx power supplies, and 2 motherboards.

They usually use Samxon GK/GF, both bad though cheap series. KM/GP for input. Don't understand that, Samxon has such great series like GT or RS…

lol, I used this power supply as practice since it had been a long time with an iron in my hands. After reading the input here, I decided it wasn't worth the risk to actually use it. Ironically, I ended up putting a CX430 (recapped) in the HTPC and it's been running 24/7 for the last several years.

Anyway, from my notes, here's what was in the Apevia at the time of replacing in case it helps someone:

Thanks guys, but I am doubting if my Apevia PSU would even be worth fixing. All that time and effort replacing caps, only to have some other crappy component fail later. Especially when an equally cheap replacement can be had on Ebay for $20.

                ASUS P5GC-MX motherboard recap

Here’s another motherboard that needed a full recap: an ASUS P5GC-MX.
This one was gifted to me some years ago by user Pentium 4, along with a few other goodies. It actually came in working order with no bulging or leaking caps. However, I noted there were United Chemicon KZG caps everywhere on the motherboard. The CPU VRM output (CPU V_core) was the only exception: it had only 2x KZG. The rest was 6x UCC TMV 4V 680 uF caps… which aren’t any good news either.

So here is what the motherboard looked like with its original caps:

I've been seeing a lot of cheap-looking (but not always so cheap) no-name AGP video cards on eBay for a while. They started popping up quite a bit when the market for AGP cards became more alive all of a sudden due to interest in “retro” PCs. One thing that struck me about these cheapo cards is that they almost always seem to come with garbage caps - including the abominable Sacon FZ. That aside, though, I've been wondering about the rest of the quality (or lack of?) on these cards. So I decided to satisfy my curiosity yet again.

This one was actually suggested to me by ChaosLegionnaire....

Beginner, practicing to unsolder on a lead free xbox 360 board, it is hell.

Don't hesitate to tell me what i do wrong and if you have any tips and tricks, because i want to learn and improve.

I have a 60w iron that can go up to 450c, cone tip, i usually set it at 400. I applied flux on solder, tinning the tip then applying new lead solder to the joint so that it can mix with the lead free and lower the melting point, then i tried to suck up the melted solder with the solder sucker. But that didn't work since the lead solder doesn't seems to mix with the lead free one. I also tried applying flux to a wick and the board, then tinning the tip of the iron and...

Recap motherboards :: Abit KG7-LITE and Soltek SL-75FRN2-L
                by Foetuss
                Hi all

Hope this is in the correct place.

I'm planning on recapping both motherboards. I actually already ordered recplament caps for them, where I will be changing out most for poly's.
Could use some double checking to see if I'm not doing something stupid .

Pictures of the boards are attached.
What I will be replacing with what : (planned)
