I was looking to repair my Polk PSW125 subwoofer plate amplifier, i've checked around the web and it seems to be a capacitors problem.
Took apart the amp, and made a visual inspection, everything's seems fine, fuse ect no burn marks, but i noticed 3 caps that were a little bit bulged. One 400v 150uf, one 50v 47uf, and two 63v 47uf.
I noted each caps voltages and uf anyways, and made a list on digikey. Some recommended Nichicon and Panasonics ones (FR and FM) serie. So I tried to stay with the Panasonics FM-A serie.
I would like to know if the caps i selected...

LG Flatron W2353V slight red hue and kind of dim.
The screen has a red hue and is dim, when i try to boost the gamma and turn down the red in the monitor osd, then the blacks are more pale, and the screen has blue hue instead if red. Also even if the brightness is set at 100 in the osd, i can't get the screen to be to be brighter and the white to be white. I also tried to change the color profile and nothing. Can this be because of the capacitors in the power board or the light bulb, or just the lcd panel that is bad?
Heres a video of a dim display fixed by chamging the caps...

Re: Help choosing capacitors for Asus VW266H
Ok i feel stupid as hell for passing that up, guess i'll replace them now. I didn't know the manufacturer would use higher voltage caps than what the board would need, and could be swapped for lower ones. Thanks y'all for your help.

Re: Help choosing capacitors for Asus VW266H
I don't have a multi meter on hand right now, i don't want to take the chance to change them and something worst happen. I would just like to replace them with the same voltage/uf as the original ones, but with higher quality....

Re: Help choosing capacitors for Asus VW266H
In the kit it said they were all panasonic and nichicon, they were FR and FM.
Here's a pic, the 5 ones on the bottom right below the panasonic caps are not changed....Last edited by Eh546; 07-16-2020, 09:26 AM.

Help choosing capacitors for Asus VW266H
So i ordered a kit off of amazon, this one, thinking i ordered the right model. It had all the right caps i needed for the power board and most of the video board, i have only 5 caps left on the video board that i need to change, but the ones i have left doesn't have the right voltage/uf.
I would need help choosing the right ones on digikey.ca
The caps i'm missing are

Chinese junk from this kit with a bevel tip.

Re: Beginner, practicing to unsolder on a lead free xbox 360 board, it is hell.
Alright i'll try that, thanks for the advises.
It's a 60w iron, but i won't work on that xbox360 board anymore, or until i have a heatgun.
I think i will be able to recap the monitor power board that i talked earlier, i'm just waiting for the caps to arrive.
So here's some pic of the diy kit i practiced on, far left ones on the first are very ugly because i thought i needed to bend the leads way apart for the components...Last edited by Eh546; 06-07-2020, 06:59 AM.

Re: Beginner, practicing to unsolder on a lead free xbox 360 board, it is hell.
Heating the boards seems to be essential for non leaded solder, for the T12
i might just pick one up, seems to be pretty good and not that expensive.
I practiced on a cheap diy kit off of amazon, the only part which i struggle is the removal of solder when it stuck in the hole, sometimes even with some fluxed wick with leaded iron, or applying more solder on it then try to suck it out doesn't work out, i might just grab a solder sucking gun....

I'm thinking i should just practice on a diy kit like this beforehand to gain some experience and not mess the whole thing up lol.Re: Beginner, practicing to unsolder on a lead free xbox 360 board, it is hell.

Re: Beginner, practicing to unsolder on a lead free xbox 360 board, it is hell.
I see, no wonder why it's so difficult, i'll just use a heat gun for that board.
I also wanted recap an old monitor, an Asus VW266H (same model in this thread but no webcam, repair vid)
In the video he didn't seems to struggle much, and is only using regular soldering iron+wick+pump, so it's probably lead solder.
Thanks...Last edited by Eh546; 05-25-2020, 10:37 AM.

Beginner, practicing to unsolder on a lead free xbox 360 board, it is hell.
Don't hesitate to tell me what i do wrong and if you have any tips and tricks, because i want to learn and improve.
I have a 60w iron that can go up to 450c, cone tip, i usually set it at 400. I applied flux on solder, tinning the tip then applying new lead solder to the joint so that it can mix with the lead free and lower the melting point, then i tried to suck up the melted solder with the solder sucker. But that didn't work since the lead solder doesn't seems to mix with the lead free one. I also tried applying flux to a wick and the board, then tinning the tip of the iron and...Last edited by Eh546; 05-24-2020, 07:03 PM.
