    250w FSP - worth rebuilding?

I am not very fond of FSP power supplies, so I ask the opinion of all ye PSU gurus: is a 250w, 5v-based FSP without OCP worth a recap and new fan?

It came out of a 2003 Gateway P4 system that I had in for bad RAM. It is running but it has a few slightly domed Teapos. Customer wants to squeeze a few more years out of that PC so I replaced it with a nice 80+ Bronze 300w Seasonic. They told me I could have the old one.

Recap it and put a new fan in, or deep six it? I can take pictures if you guys think this is worth pursuing.

Internal pic? If it's looks half-decent I'd fix it. as it might be good for a skt. A system which is 5v heavy.
I love putting bad caps and flat batteries in fire and watching them explode!!

No wonder it doesn't work! You installed the jumper wires backwards

Is it possible that it could be worse than a Bestec ATX-250 12E? Some pictures will help us to decide! Pictures please.

I will put up a few good pictures tonight when I get home. When it was still in the customer's PC, all voltages checked out OK including 5vsb.

Hey all. Have decided against rebuilding it, as the money would be much better spent improving the PSU in my main machine that sees at least 12 hours of power on time a day. I will be starting a new thread soon.

Post some pictures anyway - that way we can all talk about it.

FORD 1996 ECU RECAP: Aluminum - Polymer worth bothering?
              by Cartel

I hope they havent puked yet. I was thinking of replacing them with Aluminum - Polymer thru hole caps. probably 47uf 25v and 10uf 80v
They arent cheap. Anyone have any experience with them? Am I wasing my money on premium caps?

              Morex Int'l ATX-300C, worth a recap?
              by Bungz
Thought I would have a look inside this as I had a issue with a system freezing ( socket A Thunderbird system)

Thought it was a odd design, what do people make of it?

Edit - Nothing visual wrong, obviously may start with a recap but swapping the PSU solved the freezing issue.

I like older socket A systems so these older PSU that are weighted towards the 5V rail always catch my eye....

Recap motherboards :: Abit KG7-LITE and Soltek SL-75FRN2-L
              by Foetuss
              Hi all

Hope this is in the correct place.

I'm planning on recapping both motherboards. I actually already ordered recplament caps for them, where I will be changing out most for poly's.
Could use some double checking to see if I'm not doing something stupid .

Pictures of the boards are attached.
What I will be replacing with what : (planned)

              Soltek Golden ::

Got 4 LG L222WS 22" for free - psu recap
              by goodpsusearch
Got 4 CCFL 16/10 monitors for free.

The resolution is almost Full HD (1680x1050)

VGA Input only is a bummer though.

Uses cheap TN panel with terrible viewing angles.

Even though this is not 17" 5:4 screen, still has very low resell value here. Can be found for 15-20 euros.

All the 4 monitors were not working and needed psu recap. Used mix of mediocre / junk caps to recap them, then donated 3 of them to friends/relatives and kept 1 for myself. Also like to install extra caps on empty spaces to help them last longer.

HannStar Hanns-G HC194d LCD monitor repair
              by momaka
Normally, I never post repairs this quick after I do them, because… I am usually very slow. But today, I’m making an exception here. Why? No idea. Perhaps only because the repair details are still “fresh” in my head… which is ironic, given this is a 16 year old monitor that hardly anyone will care about today. It is new to me, though. I picked it up last November from someone on my local Craigslist. It wasn’t very close to where I live, but was close to a family friend that I had to go visit anyways. So after watching the posting on Craigslist for a few weeks and seeing it getting...
