Re: Trying to repair Yaesu FP-707 power supply
Thanks for all the replies.
I never really worked on power supplies too much.
I was hoping for a "quick fix". I did test each part and just replaced the diodes just because I had new ones in stock.
Well the darlingtons came up on a substitute list and digikey had plenty for cheap: https://alltransistors.com/crsearch.php?mat=Si&struct=NPN&pc=80&ucb=70&uce=50&ueb=5&ic=10&tj=150&ft=5&cc=350&hfe=55&caps=TO247&cf=on

Trying to repair Yaesu FP-707 power supply
I'm trying to fix this for my buddy. The power supply would power up, put out 13.8v but drop to 0v with any load.
He tried to fix it by replacing 3 caps in the "AVR" board, that didnt work.
I fired the parts cannon and replaced 3 "10D1" diodes with 3 "sk3081" diodes I had, a new 35 amp bridge rectifier, I tested all the other components and for the "2SA1012" was subed with a ECG "TIP53" and I replaced that with a "D45H8G" and same results, 13.8 and 0v under load.
I pulled the 2SD717 regulators and they all...

Re: I need some 500v screw type capacitors. Kemet any good?
I ended up going with the kemet 330uf 500v
they fit perfect.
I may have made a wrong choice on the resistors though.
Do bleeder resistors need to be non inductive?
I used 50k 10w ohmites

OK after a peek into the cover holes, I see these are actually 270uf
DCMC271T450AA2B
The reason I usually skip CDE is the low hour rating.
All the other Japanese and kemet are available up to 12000+ hours
but these still work after 20 years so I'm not sure what to do.

Re: purchasing caps from aliexpress
I bought from this seller several years back.
I needed those green mylar too which the coating was very poor.
the nichicon and united chemicon I got were fake, the silmic caps I got were date code 2003 and leaking green crud. That was 2016 and I learned my lesson: never buy caps unless its from digikey or mouser.
And I learned that lesson on this very site, which I am thankful. I had to go back and tear them all out.
Its just not worth it

Re: I need some 500v screw type capacitors. Kemet any good?
Hey thanks for the replies.
They havent failed yet but its been 20 years so I thought I should at least buy them before the price triples or they become unavailable.
Digikey has tons of stuff out of stock for a long time now
My 1200 is dated 2002
I should do the resistors too, and even resistors are getting hard to source

I need some 500v screw type capacitors. Kemet any good?
I need to replace some caps in a ameritron al1200 and it has CDE screw type with .504" spacing.
I seen these: ALS30A221DE500
Its a bit steep and 200cad for 8
I also seen these: ALC40A221EC500 for half the price.
I'm not sure if the snap-in leads will work in this situation.
Any opinions of kemet and any advice on the fitment?
stock photo of the board I have to work with below.
thanks

Re: Need tips in fixing APC 1500VA UPS having buzzing noise
Sorry to bump an old thread but I have bought a new APC 1500 BX1500M and it came today.
It buzzed on the battery power mode, and not just a soft buzz.
It also had a horrible transition time from AC mains to battery backup.
My old XS1000 from around 2011 does not buzz on battery power and the transition time is fast, almost not noticeable with a light bulb going.
I boxed it up and returned it within 4 hours of having it.
I suspect a stage of the inverter is open, a bad mosfet and...

There is no name and it has 5 identical modules in it.
