You also do not have VIN on page 38 from the DC input jack PJP1?

Page 40: B+ comes from MOSFET switches PQ7, PQ8 which are turn on (PIN 4 ACDRV will go low when ACDET sees the VIN from AC adapter) when the ACDET PIN 5 of PU4 Power control IC sees VIN.

Shit, Budm, can't you tell I'm trying to toss this motherboard
    into the junk parts bin???!!

Ok, I'm NOT getting the VIN, +19V on the upper lead of resistors PR45
and PR51, which are the voltage dividers for ACDET and OVPSET,
so obviously ACDRV stays high, so I don't get B+.

Problem is, these traces go into vias which disappear into the
board (4 layers?), so who knows where the open may be.
Damn, I just don't have the equipment to do this right! I need a good
stereo microscope, and a sexy (but damn good) re-work
    assembler!

Am I missing some obvious ribbon or cable somewhere? I'm
pretty much testing it as I photographed it, with the ON/OFF
power board attached. I just find it hard to believe that higher
impedance voltage dividers would burn out an internal trace.

The copper traces will have to be big enough to handle 3~4Amps, if they use Vias to handle that much current, then it is not good ideas unless to do mutiple VIAS. One thing that bugs me too is that I do not see the fuse at the DC input or at the batteries input at all. I wonder if PL1 inductor on page 38 from the DC input jack is open. Something like this bug me too, since we have the diagram and stiil we cannot see where we lost that 19V.

Well, even if we assume the input impedances to the chip are
very low, with 340K resistors, it will only be about 56uA of
current, so one via should be sufficient.

The PL1 inductor works fine. The +19V is on both sides.

The original Autocad gerber PCB trace files would be nice to
        have........

But that same trace is connected to the PQ7 (pin 5~8) which supplies high current for B+. VIN current flows through tWO MOSFET's (PQ7, PQ8) so pin 2 of PR45 is connected to the VIN and PQ7.

I agree that the main Vin trace must be able to handle
            large currents.

But ACDET only needs to sample the voltage with a high
impedance voltage divider, so a skinny trace and a single
via should be ok, which is what is on the board.

Wish I could x-ray where those vias are going to......

I think I misunderstood the reply, you are not getting ACDET at the pin of the IC and you are trying to find out why and where it disappears. At least you are getting close tegtting it working, may be you can do the new resistor network and jump the points instead.

Ok, I jumpered the Vin +19V to both voltage dividers,
and I got the expected +2.7V on both pins, and B+
                was at jumper PJ17!

But only for a few minutes, then for some reason
Pin 4 ACDRV went high again, even though the
correct voltages were at ACDET and OVPSET.

                ?????

                I'm going to bed.......

It turns out there is no B+ anywhere on this board, so this chip was
                  NOT the problem.

There's a good reason I don't trust people who say they
are 100% sure they know the problem.....

Nevertheless, thanks to Nucleus for the excellent schematic!

Do you really live in this tiny little town?

I am glad I could help, and yes you are right I live in that small town. But my country is also very tiny so town isn't so small compared to country

use multimeter for resistance, or diode chek to find bad traces if any. look in schematics where it starts and where it ends, put probes on that points and test it. it is about 5 traces that could be bad so not much work to clear this suspicion

It`s old thread, but if anyone (like me) looks for schematic for Acer Aspire 5532. This is the http://laptop-motherboard-schematic....5332-5732.html link

If your PQ35 MosFET for NortBridge/Graphic burns everytime, you should check Pu12. Mine was gone. After replacement, it`s alive.

                    Regards.

Hey guys, I have the same problem as above, can anybody tell me how to test the PU12 FET?

What is PU12, you say it is a fet, are you sure about that, give us the numbers etc off it
