I have Asus E402NA REV. 2.3 that's completely dead. No LEDs, not charging, not powering up. +5VA and +3VA are present. I've desoldered the flash and it's completely empty. Only FFh everywhere. Maybe the IT8995E-128 is empty too?

What model is your programmer and software version. What part number is etched on the bios chip. Is the chip in the programmers support list

Flashed dump from ASUS E402NA.304.rar. Laptop powered up and boots! The EC internal flash is probably OK. Maybe it reads code from SPI flash.

The "dump" in ASUS E402NA.304.rar is the same as 304 BIOS from Asus website (minus the first 2048 bytes). WBT.exe does not seem to work. Do I need a real dump for that? Can WBT also set windows product key or should I use something other (UEFITool)? I extracted it from installed Windows.

If you have a bios backup it can be copied to the new bios using a hex editor

No backup, unfortunately. The flash was blank.
I've downloaded two real dumps here - "E402N.rar" and "sus E402MA ORI.rar". They're versions 302 and 301 so they can't be compared completely. However, the differences reveal location of serial numbers and product keys - I'll probably just change them using a hex editor and copy the area to the new BIOS.

To fully restore system IDs, the AsusGpnv region must be recreated (if it can't be copied from a corrupt BIOS). Start of AsusGpnv area (Base: 3E2000h) and size (10000h) can be found using UEFITool NE: Intel Image -> 2nd BPDT region -> Secondary BPDT -> OB -> AsusGpnv
Also the BIOS from web has unlocked descriptor (replace first 4KB from some dump).

                                  AsusGpnv contains:
                                  • MAC address to show in BIOS - from the smaller sticker on the back of the board or from the network interface - it's stored inside RTL8402 (eFuse) and thus correct even with empty AsusGpnv
                                  • UUID - can be found in Windows registry - as a key in HKLM\SYSTEM\HardwareConf
                                  • some 12-digit number starting with 15, maybe some timestamp
                                  • machine part number (90NB0C5x-Mxxxxx format)
                                  • unknown BN09A or BN08 string
                                  • Windows product key
                                  • BIOS version (E402NA.304)
                                  • machine serial number (XXN0CV00V000000 format) - from the sticker on the bottom cover
                                  • board serial number (N0CV0000MB0000000 format) - from the bigger sticker on the bottom side of board
If Windows is installed, search for MFG0 in pagefile.sys to find partial copies of the AsusGpnv area. Very useful for the 12-digit number, part number and BN09A/BN08 string as they don't seem to be available anywhere else.

I've created AsusGpnv template (attached) from the dump in E402n.rar file - replaced the data by placeholders. The following script fills the template using real data - edit it first with your data:
                                  Code:
                                  #!/bin/sh
                                  # start of AsusGpnv area (Base: 3E2000h) and size (10000h) found using UEFITool NE: Intel Image -> 2nd BPDT region -> Secondary BPDT -> OB -> AsusGpnv
                                  cp AsusGpnv-template.bin AsusGpnv-filled.bin
                                  # MAC address (binary) - to show in BIOS (from the smaller sticker on the bottom side of board)
                                  # the real one is stored inside RTL8402 (eFuse) - it's correct even with empty AsusGpnv
                                  LC_ALL=C sed -i 's/MMMMMM/\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00/g' AsusGpnv-filled.bin

Script to replace descriptor and AsusGpnv in 304 BIOS (E402NA-AS.304.bin is E402NA-AS.304 from Asus web with first 2048 bytes removed, descriptor-from-dump.bin is first 4096 bytes from dump in E402N.rar):
                                  Code:

After flashing E402NA-AS.304-modded.bin, go to BIOS, load defaults and also provision the default secure boot keys. Finally upgrade the BIOS to 317 (using ASUS EZ Flash 3 utility in BIOS).

With ASUS, not everything is quite so simple. I will show you my way. It may be longer or harder but it is the right way to do it in my humble opinion.

For example, you can have 3 similar ASUS motherboards, all being the same model, all of which will have different BIOS versions.

I will give you an example and my version of preparing BIOS from ASUS website and in the process I am always cleaning Intel ME while doing it so you have fully cleaned BIOS, no DMI data, no password, nothing.

This is the picture of 3 similar ASUS motherboards, all of them being X555LD...

Hi all, I've spent the past week digging through the forums and guides to try correct my foolish mistake of changing hidden settings while tinkering around, and to be honest my heads overloaded so I'm hoping you'll be able to help.

I used a tool called 'Smokeless-UMAF' to access usually hidden settings in the bios. I tweaked one or two 'safe' things but made the mistake of tweaking a lot of settings under 'USB/Thunderbolt Configurations' when I didn't know what they did. For...

Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
                                  Some issues
                                  A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

                                  Things I tried

1- Update / clear ME: Took the non working bios, made a backup, and did this: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/troubl...theory/trouble...

I know there is somebody who can tell me what is happening with my laptop. For start, it is an asus vivobook s510ua with an asustek x510ua motherboard with an intel i5 7200u cpu and 16gb ram.. i have a screenshot from speccy before strange things started.. as you can see the laptop type and bios version x510ua.302.I don’t manually update the bios because i don’t like to having a bricked bios, i know what troubles that gives..

I did a fresh win 11 install, and after the automatic updates, windows rebooted and automatically started asus ez flash.....

                                  Hi,

I have a serious problem to program the Z590 chipset SRAM with a Management Engine after replacing the chipset.
The new chipset is factory new and is not containing any Management Engine. Any attempts to program it into the chipset under Windows ends with a failure (eg. Error 20: Management Engine Device not present, or something similar).
Due to the lack of the ME several ports on the board, including all M.2 ports aren't working, booting OS works only on USB. So it's now other way, as to program the chipset with a ME.

Usually on ASUS boards it worked...
