HP 4740s shuts down after 30min - Clean ME

Hi I got 4740s HP that I am trying to fix last 5 days but with no hope, so I said maybe someone here on forum will maybe know whats wrong with it. So laptop turns off after 30 minutes no matter if it's in full load or idle, or in windows or in bios.

    What I try is

    - different adapter
    - flash bios to latest version
    - change memory
    - change memory module
    - checked heatsink it's ok
    - put new thermal paste on cpu and gpu
    - disconnect bios battery for 1 hour
    - disassembled it and look closely to chips and mosfets everything looks legit no burns or any suspicious things on motherboard or shorts when assembled.

I really don't know what else to do, I am starting to think something is maybe wrong with bios chip but I'm not sure if thats correct, can someone help me here, tnx.

I did search 4740s, but didn't find anything.

How to dump bios I never did that. I don't have old bios backup didn't do it, only this current latest that I flash. You think intel me region is wrong ?

Original and still in the socket CPU is i5-2450, and chipset is HM76.

Plus I can't remove this annoying admin. password that previous owner set, I know the password but It won't disappear even after clearing cmos. I tried to remove it in bios but when I enter setup bios admin. password section in bios I can see Administrator and I can only create guest account with new password but can't change the admin one because it's gray out.

      EDIT:
I found now by searching a little further(didn't do that before posting, my bad) here that few other people have ME region problem, causing 30min shutdown, could be that I have the same problem then.

        Hi
Did you comfirm fan works no lint balls hanging in side stopping the fan from running or not running fast enuff. If you tried a donor bios and never merged your original ME REGION then it's dirty or original ME REGION is corrupted in that case you need to rebuild it using the correct new chipset ME REGION and rebuild it with the intel fit tool for that chipset . Like i always say on intel model you just can't use somebody else bios AMD yes no ME REGION thats your problem if fan is clean and working 100% believe me i'm doing this over 30 years .

Fan is working no problem there. I am 99% sure that ME region is problem, I think it's been corrupted when I got it, I assume flashing new bios may fix the problem, but it didn't. Don't know if made mistake there, maybe I should left it on that version of bios that I had before flash ? Can I dump and flash bios from windows or I need to unsoldered bios chip and put it in reprogramator ?

Yep, i don't think that you can fix the ME problem with windows ...
You will need programmer, unsoldering, reprogram and soldering back
Well, maybe the god's here will say i'm wrong.

Hi I course it's fixable if you search my post I explain how it is done and what is needed for sure he will need a programmer even if I fix it for him.

This is why I keep trying to explain to everybody when they just ask for a bios dump even if it's in a new computer it only ment for that computer once it boots then its married to that computer so Im sure that's what wrong with yours so if you have a programmer upload original back up and I will rebuild you a new clean file .

hi friend,i think, its working fine within 30 min means bios is not a culprit.bios needed for startup process of the system only.after startup it will not interrupt.once i have solved a overheat and shutdown issue by installing proper graphics driver.u can also try this too..

It's not graphics driver, it's shutting down in bios too, doesn't have anything to do with graphics driver in bios because laptop did not load them yet when in bios.

The programs they use for editing bios stuff usually starts with HEX editing, but I saw some other softwares that people use to overwrite the ME region stuff... Maybe things from here

Other than that I'm fairing new to BIOS stuff aswell

                              Anyways goodluck!

Post your old bios here to clear me region, if you dont know how to do it. You will need a bios programmer.

Hi, my laptop wont boot at all
With original bios no POST, only LED lights
With alternative BIOS from model TP500LN (flashed via programmer) the notebook works again
                                          Some issues
                                          A- with bios from 500LN, it won't update from bios of model 500LA (from 500LN v203 to 500LA v300)
B- If updated from 500LN version 203 to 300, the battery stops being recognized

                                          Things I tried

Hello, I have an old Dell G3 3579 (ST: 2WQ7LP2-8FC8) with a newer 8FC8 BIOS password. I have successfully attached to the flash chip (W25Q128JVSQ) on the motherboard with a CH341A programmer and made several modifications using Intel FIT (e.g., allow software SPI write) without bricking. I was also able to boot to a modified GRUB shell where I attempted to edit many BIOS security related options like BIOS Guard/Lock, Flash Signature Override, ME FW Image Re-Flash, etc.

Unfortunately, some of these modifications like to Intel BIOS Guard failed because it is fused into the PCH. Also,...

                                          Hello,

I have a Lenovo Thinkbook 15 G2 ITL i5 Laptop (serial number: MP2BFZEF) that when I turn it on, the led on the power button lights up for 5 seconds, then goes out. There's no display and nothing happens.
So I thought it was a Bios problem.
I found 3 bios chips on the board, which I read with a bios programmer: two XMC model bios chips and a Winbond model bios chip. Each XMC model bios chip has two partitions named XM25QH128A [3.3V] and XT25F128A [3.3V]. And the Winbond model bios chip has three partitions named W25Q80BL 3.3V, W25Q80xV 3.3V and W25Q80DV 3.3V....

                                          Hi everyone,

I have been doing hardware repair as a hobby for some years now and recently decided to learn about repairing laptops as a fun challenge.

I managed to get my hands on a "HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2523nd" notebook that only shows a white power LED and doesnt respond to anything.

After initial testing I concluded the bios seems to be corrupted since all voltages are normal and there are no shorts. HP has a feature for a bios restore from USB with winkey+B for this model. This did not work.

I have desoldered the bios chip (GigaDevice...
