I received an 840 G3 6050a2822301 motherboard with Manufacturer Programming Mode (MPM) active and unbranded (AMT not set). I succeeded in programming the system information but inadvertently locked the board before branding. As a result, on boot I get a message that the board is in an uncommitted state. Thanks Poste. Interesting result when I flashed this bios. System booted and a message that system information was recovered from EC appeared. Then a reboot. On checking the system with DMI tools, AMT is now committed and ME is "normal", which is good. MPM though is locked. The interesting aspect is that the serial number and feature byte now in the bios are not the ones I had programmed before accidently locking the board the first time. So this number apparently did not come from the EC. Any idea where this serial number and feature byte originated from. System successfully booted a sysrecovery linex distro from usb, so I think the board is OK. My guess is that to fully enable MPM, both the bios and EC need to be fully clear, but doing this is beyond my knowledge and not sure I want to take any chances since the board is now appears to be OK.Comment

BIOS Corruption - Cause
So I managed to corrupt my machine by installing linux and enrolling custom secure boot keys. I did choose to enroll the Microsoft keys as well, to prevent any potential bricking due to 3rd party drivers from HP being signed with those keys.
After doing that, and rebooting(it did boot, powerLED, fanspin etc.), the laptop did not give any video output on the LCD or video connectors. I think I was able to get in BIOS and trigger the beeper by pressing ESC.... -

i do have an HP 860 G10 LOCKED, i looked at the bytes he change after an unlock and applied the same on my bios file but i get error that "bios was recovered from EC chip due to data mismatch, do you guys think you can help? if so here is my main bios backup, if i have to backup EC chip, i will, Thank you so much... -

I have an EliteBook 850 G5. After a Windows update, including a BIOS update, the notebook turns on, but the screen remains black, and the fans spin at high speed—nothing else happens.
I assume the BIOS update failed, so I searched for the BIOS chip.
I found a Winbond chip located between the RAM and the hard drive, which has a size of 32 MB.
However, the BIOS update available on HP's website is only 17 MB in size. I used the update version that was previously installed when the notebook was still working.
