how to determine if my bios is faulty or corrupted

hello bad caps member i have a problem with acer aspire one d270..
the problem is no power.. i check a lot of capacitor and mosfet but dont see any problem..
i check the bios ic (winbond) brand and i found that only pin 8 has voltage reading 3. volts but other pin has no respond.. can u give me an advice if this is a bios problem?
    thanks a lot...

try removing bios chip then measure the trace on pins 3,7 and 8. not the bios chip.

Here's something I wrote to myself in the Acer Aspire One AOA 150 project folder on my HDD, maybe it will give you a pointer:

Format a regular USB stick, one without SD converter,
built in MP3 player etc, with the FAT file system,
not FAT32. You will have better luck with a smaller
              one, up to 2GB.

Download the latest BIOS for your model at Acer's support sirte.
Rename the BIOS file, which ends in ".fd" to ZG5IA32.FD.

Copy the file ZG5IA32.FD to the USB stick.
Put the stick into the Acer Aspire One AOA 150,
or AOA 110. Any USB port will do. Make sure your
stick is the only thing attached to any USB port on
              your netbook.

With your left hand press and hold down simultaneously
the Fn + Esc keys. At the same time, with your right
hand, press and hold down the power button until the
              power light starts blinking.
When it does you can release both hands.

It will take a while for the BIOS to get flashed and
              then the netbook will reboot.

Hopefully everything will turn out nice and dandy.

On spi BIOS usually you have 3.3v on pin 1 and 8. In your case you must have 3.3 volts on pin 1 (except the resistor is missing). Bios we'll not have any voltage (and signals) if KBC is not functioning. You can see some voltage on other pins i.e. 0.5 volts, going up and down when you plug in power supply. The only way to check those pins is with an oscilloscope because they are data pins.

For KBC to function (like any IC) needs three signals. Power, Clock and RST. If all three signals are there (on KBC) and there is no communication with SPI probably problem with KBC. If there are no data signals on LPC between south and KBC the problem maybe the Southbridge.

Why do you think so? 3V Always goes to Bios and KBC at the same time, right? If KBC doesnot work, Bios still recive 3V I think. (Except when KBC has short and this voltage goes to 0V)

i think the safe way to tell if your BIOS ic is bad to desolder it and test over some universal programmator. Than you can red data from bios and compare it with original .bin file.
...the quieter you become the more you are able to hear...

I like that idea, will be giving that a try when the opportunity arises

                                Hello everyone,

I’m currently working on a dead MSI GP75 Leopard (MS-17E71) motherboard (i7 CPU, NVIDIA GPU) with a no display/no backlight issue initially. After extensive investigation, I’m at a critical stage involving EC firmware, BIOS/ME region interaction, and possible deep corruption. I'm seeking advanced insight from anyone with experience in EC/BIOS sync issues or PCH-level behavior. Here’s a full breakdown:
                                🧩 Initial Issue
                                • Board powers on (fans spin, keyboard lights up and can be adjusted, caps lock led lights), but no display or backlight
                                • External display (HDMI) shows
                                ...

Hello, the bios on my Lenovo TD350 ThinkServer got corrupted during a bios update, the bios restore function killed the Server.
I need to flash the bios inside the MX25L12835F SOP8, i have already desolder the chip and solder it into my SOP8 adapter and read it with a ROM programmer.
I use the innoextract 1.9 software to extract the bios file from the .exe file that i download from lenovo website, can you help me edit the Hex file (removing the Index part and resize the file)?
