If you only want to read/write serial flash (most if not all BIOSes these days), you can get by with nothing more than a 3.3v parallel port and a few wires.

Instead of Willem - Universal Flash Programmer v.6.03
but if you want using programmer more than once a week you should start thinking about Wellon VP-XXX series and minimum is VP-590 and if you can spend more cash I will recommend VP-990.

That one has an extra buffer IC, but you don't really need it for low-speed read/write with short wires.

I will recommend this one, (see link) it interfaces trough usb and is cheap,
                      (£25.88) and very fast.

A few years ago I was looking for programmer myself, the only programmer brand that I found that had good software and in in addition added support for new chips, good homepage and had good service/help was Xeltek.

I remember I was looking at one programmer brand and contacted the makers, their homepage was a mess and their software horrible. After several mail attempts they got back to me, I asked for added chip support but never got back to me after that.

Xeltek are more expensive then all the chinese cheaper brands and the 'bulid it yourself it may work' brands but I'm pretty sure you will not find other programmers that offer the chip support as they do. Any comment on that ? any programmers that have better chip support ?

You would have to know the chip type, on Xeltek homepage you can type in the chip type and see what programmers are able to flash it.

                                Hi everyone,

I have been doing hardware repair as a hobby for some years now and recently decided to learn about repairing laptops as a fun challenge.

I managed to get my hands on a "HP Pavilion Gaming 15-ec2523nd" notebook that only shows a white power LED and doesnt respond to anything.

After initial testing I concluded the bios seems to be corrupted since all voltages are normal and there are no shorts. HP has a feature for a bios restore from USB with winkey+B for this model. This did not work.

I have desoldered the bios chip (GigaDevice...

                                Greetings badcaps community,

I havent done this for a long time and want to start it all again, after some evil and annyoing illness.
So I apologize in advance, if some phrases might sound a bit like gibberish or illogical to you.

Im trying my best to fully describe what I plan to achieve and hope I was choosing the right sub-forum for my new adventure.

                                I have a Elitebook 820 G1 and a Elitebook 840 G2 here.

These ask for a password when entering the BIOS, but boot just fine from the internal SSD.

                                I learned that desoldering...

My pc updated bios through Windows Update and I was greeted with BLACK SCREEN WITH CPU FAN MAX SPEED. I don't think there is even a screen signal, because it triggers my monitor for a couple seconds and then the monitor turns off. I tried the other outputs as well.
                                1. I tried clearing bios, resetting bios, removed the CMOS battery, removed m.2 ssd, wifi, and ram. Still black screen with CPU fan blasting.
                                2. I tried using the Lenovo BIOS CD and BIOS USB, but neither worked. At least I couldn't get anything to work.
                                3. I could only locate two chips that look like bios chips. Could someone verify this

I have OriginPC EON 15SL, however, my laptop starts and shutsdown after 1-2 second. Keyboard leds are coming on then fans spinning then it shutsdown and not turning back on unless I plug out the power cable and plug it in. I had issues with bricked BIOS then I flashed BIOS I got from the vendor to the SPI chip and still it didn’t worked because my EC firmware was newer than the BIOS I have flashed. So I wanted to try flashing the EC chip with the correct firmware that matches with the BIOS also from the vendor and it worked everything was well, and then stupid me wanted to unlock some...
