at the moment i am using IPA or thinners to clean liquid from mainboards however i have been offered a bulk deal on spill damaged electronics goods.as its a lot of items i am going to invest in a ultrasonic bath to do a better job of cleaning them.my question is can i carry on using the IPA or thinners in the ultrasonic bath or does anyone use specialist cleaning products to clean the mainboards with.
thanks

hp g56 no backlight
i have seen a few g56 laptops with the problem of no backlight.they all have led screens so no inverter to diagnose and i cant seem to find any fuses on the mainboard, any idea's where to start diagnosing this fault, ive tried new cable and new screen so definately mainboard issue and ive seen enough of this problem to think it may be a common fault.
thanks

Re: reballing temperatures
i'll post the info tomorrow as i cant remember the exact model number of the reflow machine.i do know it was over £20000 so its not a cheap model although ive used some of the sub £1000 models and to be honest there wasnt that much difference in capability, the only difference i noticed was the poor build quality on the cheaper unit.

Re: reballing temperatures
not to sure about the make or type of flux but it was sold to us with the reflow machine from a well known uk supplier for reflowing purposes.we are using quite a lot of flux and making sure it gets under the chip.the thermocouple is right up against the side of the chip and yes there is flux around the end of the thermocouple.

Re: reballing temperatures
yes, been fixing laptops for a while including reflowing however the company i work for want to move away from reflowing and concentrate on chip replacement and reballing.ive no problem with the actual reballing process, we just seem to be having difficulty removing the chips without damaging the board.

reballing temperatures
hi,
ive had 2 laptops this week that require reballing.on both occasions ive removed a couple of pads from the mainboard when removing the vga chip.
i'm removing the vga chip at around 230c, shall i go hotter than this or is it better to stick to 230c but leave it longer.
thanks.

moisture in vga chips
can anyone recommend a method to get rid of moisture in new vga chips.i replaced a chip on a dell xps today and it popcorned when the temp got up to solder melt point.
i am aware that baking in a oven will do the job but i dont know how long or at what temp.also is there a oven i could purchase that is made specifically for this job or is it just a case of using the preheat on a reflow machine
thanks.

maxim chip question
when reading the code on a maxim chip which part do you go by to get a replacement, example - the maxim chip full code is 1909ETI547NSCW.is it just the 1909E bit that is important or do i have to match it up exactly.what do all the other numbers and letters mean, are they just things such as date etc....
thanks

dell inspiron 1545 charge board diode
on the chargeboard on this model there is a diode behind the power connector, does anyone know of a replacement? how do you tell which diode can replace certain ones or are most diodes of the same size the same rating.
thanks.
