HP Elitebook 840 G5 Black Screen

Hey there,

I have got a HP Elitebook from a friend. It just starts with a black screen and loud fan. He tried to unlock the BIOS. Strangely I can't get 2 same reads out of the 32 MB Chip.
If I put another Chip in I can read and write on it without any problems. So I suggest it is a bad chip.
I only got a faulty readout of the 32 MB. The original dump and the one that was flashed is sadly gone forever. But maybe someone can make a working image again out of it?

I have rebuilt your original bios, write both chips with these files and copy the result.

I tried your files and they did not work. I still get a black screen with the fan spinning.
I had to replace the 32 MB Chip since I was not able to read/write on the old one.

I have a CH341A Programmer. Not the best and I am planning to buy a better one, but in the meantime I have just flashed 8x 840 G3. And with the new chip I was able to perform a proper write and read. I think the friend who tried to unlock it did more damage to it doing so.

So I have 20 of these things my wife got and decided to give them to kids... unfortunately, all 20 are bios locked

I have an RT809F programmer and extracted the bios 32mb bios.

I used the HP Bios unlock tool and then wrote back the bios but now the caps lock light blinks then the fan runs high.

I wrote back the original bios and the same issue

Question

1. Do I need to read and reprogram both 16mb and 32mb chips? My understanding from reading all I need to do is just the 32mb
   If all I have to do is just the 32mb why did it fail?
2. Since I have 20 840 g5 is there generic firmware(s) I can use to just write to all and re-input serial numbers etc?
   If so are there detailed steps for this?

clear me bios ? ,you mean clean the ME firmware, or remove a password or... ?

Hi, I have a 840 G5 that had black screen and fan speed max, I've found a bios files 16 and 32 that works, but after to flash I have a security error on start "HP EndPoint Security Controller Problem"

, I've tried to resolve with hp dmi tool but it don't works. Now I have a wrong serial and I think also wrong security o something like wrong mac address. I've attached the original files, can someone help me to solve this issue?
