    A1708 820-00840 charging issue

    Hi all,

I have a 820-00840 board which shows 5v on the usb c ammeter. I have checked both CD3215 which seem fine and I have all the required voltages except a short on pp3v3_g3h.
What I have noticed is there is a ic on the top side of the board near J3300. It is marked with p13usb32.
The boardview or schematic I have for this board has no mention of this ic, it's not displayed on the boardview.
This ic does get hot when trying to charge therefore I removed it and the short on pp3v3_g3h has gone.
Does anybody have any information on this ic or where I can purchase it from?

    Thank you

    Re: A1707 820-00840 charging issue

Apologies, I made a typo and do not seem to have the ability to edit the post. The Macbook is a A1708 not a A1707.

    Thank you

      Hi. See attached.

      The part is @ U3000 = Diodes / Pericom PI3USB32324XEAE .

You can find replacements on Aliexpress:

      https://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale...psort=1&page=1

The BV file that shows the U3000 = 820-00840-01

Thank you for your help however the Aliexpress link and a search does not give me any results.

The 820-00840-01 boardview file I cannot seem to find either here or in Google. All I can find is the 820-00840-A boardview / schematic.

        Appreciate your input though.

        Thanks

The URL is working for my side but you can also go to:

aliexpress.com and enter in the search bar 'PI3USB32324XEAE' -> then sort by price or ratings or sales, etc.

Update - also review more about the MUX here:

          https://www.macbook-repairs.co.uk/bl...ok-air-13-2019

BTW - the author / store from the above article is in the UK. Perhaps ring them to ask if they will sell you the spare parts ? I know the lizards in our town will not do that. We do not have a problem with it but other shops appear to urinate around their shops to mark their territory.

Very strange, I did a manual search for the second time and they came up.

Can I ask where you managed to find that boardview?
Please ignore if that is not allowed.

              Thank you

Irony indeed. lol. How come you from Canada can find a post in my country that I could not find. The mind boggles. :-)

Many thanks again, I have emailed said company to see if they can help.

                  Kind regards

Hey mon2 great link for that information. Here is a data sheet link I got from a comment on a YouTube video that people were discussing on this chip, data sheet link - https://www.diodes.com/assets/Datash...I3USB32212.pdf

                      Hi Simplebeans,

                      Thanks for your support.
That is an updated version to the datasheet I found that stated it only supports USB 2.0.

I wonder if this is a newer version of the chip and if they compatible.

                      USB 2.0 version is here.

Careful..the last post references a totally different part and with a different package and pinout.

TBH, I did the same based on the original post. The boardview confirmed the device is not the same.

The full part number wraps onto the 2nd line of the device package.

Mon2, I noticed the package difference however due to the ic no. wrapping that's not a great idea from Pericom.
Not difficult to come up with a part no. that fits to be honest.

                          Great advice from you all.

                          Thank you

Thanks for you help Mon2, I was able to source the ic with your help.

I have replaced the USB IC and the charger now shows 20v @ 0.22ma.
The CPU warms up, not hot just warm yet I don't believe it's booting.
There is no video int or ext.

                            ppvcccpu_s0g is staying at 0v.
                            CPUVR_PWM2 is also 0v
                            PPBUS_G3H_CPU is at 13v
                            PP5V_S0 is at 5v
                            L7220 measures 7.3ohms

Can anyone shed any light on why I don't get vcore?

                            Thanks

                                  Thanks for your help.

                                  SMB_SMC_CHGR_SDA - pulses between 3.0-3.4v
                                  SMB_SMC_CHGR_SCL - pulses between 3.0-3.4v

                                  pp3v3_3gh is steady 3.4v
