Dell E5430 doesn't detect charger ID

    Hello!
I have a E5430 that doesn't recognize the adapter wattage and therefore cannot charge the battery.
    Any advice welcomed
    Thank you in advance!

Indeed, still have no idea about circuits and how they work though.
What pins you want me to measure?

With laptop ON and charger connected:
          PU1 has 5v @ pin #5 (all other 0v)
          PQ2 has 5v @ Gate (all other 0v)

PL4 resistance to GND (both pins) 110KΩ
              Voltage 0v
              (bought boardview too, uploading meanwhile)

Theres no voltage on psid from the middle pin,the jack is probably broke

I tried with other jack (i got many assembled with cable, genuine Dell) but still no luck.
I also double checked all measurements and they are correct.

I made a mistake, can you check PR13 it should measure 33 ohms ,and PR12 2.2K

The PS_ID line should be pulled high by PR12 to +3.3V. One wire comms to the charger is initiated by the EC by pulling this line low momentarily. You should see a small burst of data from the charger on a CRO when the charger is first plugged in. If the line is zero volts, then the one wire chip in the charger is getting no power. Check whether +3.3V_ALW is absent or it's being pulled low by something (potentially the EC or the switch chip PU1.

I'm sorry, i was away from the bench for some days.
@SMDFlea the PR12 and PR13 are tiny SMD, you want me to desolder and measure them?
@reformatt thank you for the explanation but i don't understand exactly what you want me to do. I'm not very expert. Can you please explain?

Pr12 resistance to GND from the side of 0V !
                              PQ2 voltages !

                                0v side to GND = 9Ω
                                PQ2 has 5v @ Gate

PSID line is shorted to ground, most probably PU1 is the reason. Replace it, or if you don't have a spare one, just short pin3 to pin4, but before that make sure the short to ground is gone.

I replaced the PU1 (from a used motherboard, not brand new part) the resistance on PR12 raised from 0Ω to 2.kΩ although still charger wattage is unidentified.
                                      Another failed component?

                                        So far so good.
What is the voltage at pin 4? There is a possibility the replaced part is also faulty so short pin3 and pin4 and test this way.

Hello, everyone!!! Happy New Year to all!!!

When I turn on the laptop, the warning appears: You have attached an undersized 0W adapter and blah, blah, blah... The bios says that the adapter is not connected and the battery status is excellent.

This laptop has all the voltages at the input, and the charger IC is also normal. There is 3.3V at the PS_ID and I have already tested it with another adapter, also original. The adapter detector also seems to work normally. I am suspecting the SIO. What do you think?

On my portable oscilloscope there is a PS_ID signal....

                                          Dell Latitude 5420 P137G
                                          Board: LA-K491P REV A01

I have received this laptop which was described as "does not power on or accept charge." Battery shows no sign of charging when charger is plugged in, nor does the board show any signs of life when battery is unplugged and charger is plugged in. No light from the LED at all or any other indications of activity.

Board seems to have no shorts, all power rails are fine and show high resistance.

When charger is plugged in, voltage is present in 3.3V rail but absent in others....

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 7567 LA-D993P that I've just got running.
There was corrosion around PU1503 which shorted PC1518 & blew PL1504. (Reference pictures attached)
I've replaced PC1518 & PL1504 & the laptop is now running however I now have another issue.

                                          Here are the tested scenarios:

                                          1. With the laptop running on battery, I plug in the 150W charger & the charger shuts off (no LED, protection mode) but the laptop remains running on battery.

                                          2. With the laptop off, plug in charger (LED says on) & the front charging...

Dell E6400 PT434 type Battery Charging Stuck at 1%. Battery Pinouts?

My question pertains to understanding the control circuity inside a Dell PT434 type battery used in Dell E6400, E6410 and other Dell notebooks?

Does anyone have a circuit diagram for the inside of a Dell PT434 battery and/or a description of how the control lines work to control this battery?

My reason for asking is I have a battery which I cannot get to charge beyond 1% in a Dell E6410 or E6400.
The LED bar graph charge indicator on the battery shows one LED lighted when the info button is pressed.
I have tried multiple different Dell power adapters. My Dell...

Hello, I received this laptop with the following condition: When I turn it on, it shows the ALIENWARE light and the Alien button lights up, then it does not show an image and it restarts constantly, as the customer had already informed me that the battery was dead, I connected an original charger that I had it for testing, the machine turned on normally and I was able to enter Windows without problems, after a while of testing I noticed that it is very slow (like a Cyrix 425...), and after performing a CPU test the frequency is
below normal, as if it were operating in an extreme energy...
