Hi guys, i bought a broken asus x442u laptop to try and fix. The power light would blink once and the chipset (die next to the i7 processor) would get hot momentarily, if i kept disconnecting and reconnecting the charger it would get reeeally hot.
Anyways, i narrowed it down to two mosfets that had shorts. Because i didnt have the same ones to replace, i used some similar looking ones. After those were installed, it didnt give any signs. I then realised it had the exact same two mosfets feeding the GPU. I probablyy should have tried those first, but again no signs of life.
I thought it would at least get further into booting since it didnt really need the gpu for that. Then i noticed that i knocked off a resistor above the mosfet, but i didnt know where it goes since there were multiple empty pads. I also might have knocked a few capacitors while replacing the mosfets. So now i need pictures of that part of the motherboard to see whats missing, but i cant find any close ups online. Or maybe by me using the wrong mosfets at first i killed the whole thing. Idk, but pictures would be nice as it is only one or two components that need touching up, and this board has some nice specs (i7 8550u).
And let this be a lesson, always take pictures before messing with anything.
Thank you in advance.
