I have HP 250 laptop which recently developed intermittent shutdown. I disassembled the laptop motherboard and found out that the display chip gets very hot, and the system eventually won't come on or its fan spin or display anything. Please, professional assistance is needed. Thanks.

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
Schematic is available in the forum as long as your mb is INVENTEC 6050A2493101 . If this is your mb check Q567 voltage on Pin1/3/4 after turned on. You mean PCH by saying "display chip"?? . Is that getting hot without even turning on?? If getting hot without turning on, verly likely PCh is bad. Btw, this series mb's are all nearing "end of life" for PCH. -
Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
@mcplslg123. My mb is PALWONN 88 M3 E230435. The chip is labelled US1 (maybe PCH). Yes, it is getting hot without turning on. Sorry, I am a newbie. Thanks for your assistance.Comment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
There should be some other marking as well. maybe its OSAMU_xxx mb for which schematic is not avlbl. Can you post a clear photo of the chip getting hot without turning on. What is the marking on chip??Comment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
this usually indicates a fault with the chipsetComment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
Ok so its OSAMU2_HPC mb for which schematic is not available. The chip marked with arrow is indeed PCH. If its getting hot without even powering on, there can be 2-3 reasons
01.3V rail is shorted. You can measure the resistance on 3V coil. Its located near PCH.
02.VS voltage is being transferred without turnig on-so you need to findout the mosfet/IC for dc-dc transfer.
03.PCH itself is shorted.
To start with, measure resistance on 3v coil and if it shows low resistance, remove the coil and again measure resistance on both sides of the coil.
Give these feedback and we may be able to pinpoint the faultComment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
@mcplslg123. (1) I don't really understand how to set my metre to be able to read resistance on coils, though I know how to read voltages. (please, assist me in this regard). (2) I don't know how to find MOSFET/IC for dc-dc transfer. (3) How do I know when the PCH is shorted? I've tried these and have not been able to succeed, hence, late feedback. Thank you, Veteran.Comment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
For resistance, you need to set your meter in Ohms mode.Comment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
Okay, I found that one of the coils (a little close to PCH) shorts when on board and doesn't short when off board. Same coil also showed 6.67 ohms. Can it be causing my woes? Thank you, Mentor.Comment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
You need to measure resistance on both pads of the coil while its removed. Perhaps you are measuring only one pad.Comment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
If the resistance measurement is correct, you have a shorted PCH+ shorted 3V regulator. May be even kbc is shorted. If you have bga rework machine, you can try removing the pch. Elase get in touch with some professional repair shop. The cost of repair will be almost close to a new replacement mb. So i'll suggest look for a replacement mb as long as its available and not expensive.Comment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
No, I don't have BGA Rework machine, but I have 8032A++ Hot Air Gun. Getting new motherboards here is difficult. I have before now watched some videos where PCH was removed using BGA, but I don't know where and how to procure it to aid my work. Thanks, Mentor.Comment

Re: HP 250 display chip hot on power button press and no power/fan spin/display
It cant be done with 8032A. So you need to get a bga rework machine for future work as and when possible. Unfortunately, i cant offer you any other solution.Comment

Vizio e601i-A3 - Has Sound and Display, But No Backlight - Bad Power Supply Board or Bad LED Bulbs ?by Tynan DillI was given this TV from my great uncle. He said it just wouldn't turn on one day out of nowhere, replaced the TV, and gave it to me to possibly fix and use for myself.
Upon bringing it home and plugging it up, it showed a standby light.
I powered it on and without a flashlight, the display showed the "V" but the lighting is very dim, but visible.
The screen seems to blackout and stay black, but with a flashlight I can see the display.
With my Playstation 4 connected via HDMI, and running a game I can hear sound.

by acedogblastThis is a guide that I am writing for helping others to replace their MEC1503 EC chip if it breaks (or to get around an inconvenient prompt to the BIOS). This forum has been extremely helpful to me so I would like to contribute to help others. I will tell you right now that this task is very difficult to do. You MUST have experience and tools to do precision micro-soldering, BGA reballing, trace repair, and general laptop repair skills.
There are some specialty tools needed to do this task. The replacement MEC1503 chips can be acquired from Aliexpress. Do not buy the bare chips as... -
Dear All,
Please really2 need Help on this Acer A515-52G Motherboard Compal EH5AW LA-G521P Rev: 1A.
At first this laptop can on, keyboard light on but no display. Open the motherboard, found out the PQZ3 Mosfet and PUZ3 ic near it burn. Refer picture below. Then I replaced both. All the power rail 3.3,5,1.2, 1.35, 0.8V have power back after i turn on the laptop except for the VCC_GT rail. Voltage at Power Supply showing 0.000A before turn on, after turn on it became 0.5 0.6A. Seem cannot boot and still no display. Then I replaced the PUG1 and mosfet, but the VCC_GT still no power.... -
