Macbook Pro A1708 (820-00840-a) Weird problem

Hey guys, i have a weird one, 820-00840 board no water damage, macbook is very clean.

The issue is the when i use the macbook (use the touch pad or typing after 10-30 seconds i have weird graphic glitch at the bottom of the screen,(similar of that white line of the touch IC issue on the iphone 6 Plus) and after that the screen goes black (backlight is still present). When i close the lid and i re open it, image comes back always.
If i don't touch or use it, it works perfect.
So i am guessing when there is action there is an issue with something and causes the image to go black.
I checked hall sensors and resistors, everything is okay. For sure its not the flexgate issue.

I've tried reset SMC - PRAM, also fresh install of MacOs- no change.

Keep in mind when i boot in safe mode - there is no issue at all.

    Any suggestions?

Here is a short video of the issue

Once the display goes dark, take your flashlight (phone) and apply it to the front and sides of the display.

Can you see the graphics still on the display ?

From the backlight flicker, suspecting that you have a backlight fault. Weird that it works in safe mode but perhaps in Safe Mode, the intensity is less?

You can experiment with the backlight at a lower / dim level - dial it down to the lowest setting and see if the display remains active for a longer duration.

Backlight controller is U8400 on this logic board.

Post the voltage @ PPVOUT_S0_LCDBKLT while display remains lit and when display goes dark.

Don't think backlight is the issue. Backlight stays on, just the image goes off.

A1708 does have flexgate faults if you lose the display.

Contact Apple support and demand they fix this lemon of a design. The issue is that the flex cable used is too short and will break over repeated opening and closing of the lid.

You can Google around for some hacks of repairs but why bother? Do not worry about warranty coverage, they were sued over this fault and did cover many similar models without costs. Be firm and contact them for a resolution. You can charge a fair service fee to handle the case on your client's behalf.

They didnt do anything. Ultimately had to a LCD only replacement for the customer.
            Thanks for the help.

Pretty sure officially, they only cover the A1706 manufactured between October 2016 to December 2016. Beyond that, it was only for 5 years max after original purchase. So we are coming to the end of that window now.

MacBook Air A2337 (820-02016) USB-C Port Issue – Only Works in One Orientation (CC Line Problem?)
                by rounin
                Hi everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

                🛠 Original Issue
                The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.

a2338 2020 Macbook Pro liquid damaged won't turn on- weird issue
                by bigbadbios
                Hi,
I am trying to fix this liquid damaged 2020 Macbook pro and I noticed something weird.
When I push on/around the renesas 501cr0b IC, which appears to be a clock generator/ multiplier, If I apply lot of pressure, the device will reach 19.9 volts and seems to be trying to work.
I have thoroughly reflowed that area and completely removed that chip (there was some liquid stain in that area) but no help. I have just 5v 0a unless I apply the pressure.
Your help is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

                Macbook A1708 820-0040 Camera Issue
                by Instafixx
                Hello,
                Namaste.

I have this Macbook A1708 830-00840 with a No Camera Issue.
System Report says that no video capturing device is attached.
Installed a known good display assembly with working front camera but still the same.
The motherboard is clean. No Liquid Damage.

                Can anyone help?

Dell G3 17 3779 Weird power cycling and shutdown/restart issue
                by SuperJames
This one's a weird one, and still unsolved despite it having gone back to Dell once.

                Specs

i7-8750H, GTX 1060 Max Q, 500GB SSD & Seagate 7mm 1TB HDD. 17.3 IPS screen. This has the fingerprint reader in the power button.

                Backstory

I bought this from eBay, from a wallpapering shop. £650 in 2020 which was a good price considering it's a gaming laptop. Physically it's in perfect shape, apart from the hinge mounts on the palmrest failing in the time I've had it (I have a new palmrest for it). The usual thin plastic crap modern build quality!...
