Hi
I have a MacBook pro 17" (820-2610)
No corrosion or liquid spill
There is only a dim green light on the charger
I am using a genuine 85w charger, I have tried other chargers but the light is dim. If I keep the power pads shorted and turn on the light on the magsafe blinks / flashes
I have not tried another DC-IN board but one is on its way to me
I have read online and looked through the schematics
In order for me to get a green light I need to have voltage on ADAPTER_SENSE
which i do not have. I see that U6915 is responsible to provide ADAPTER_SENSE but I do not have this and I do not have any voltage on any pins on U6915.
I did not have any new LM397 chips on hand but had an old A1181 Macbook motherboard that is not working and had this chip on it so I powered it on and tested to see if there was voltage on this chip on the A1181 laptop and there was. I also checked without power if the chip was shorted and it was not.
I de-soldered and replaced the one on the MacBook pro 17" (820-2610) but no change Still dim light I can get a blinking light on the magsafe.
If I plug in magsafe and touch the power on pads and test for voltage on U6915. I get nothing. The voltage results are below for U6915
Pin 1 0v
Pin 2 0v
Pin 3 voltage goes from 0.1 to 0.2v
Pin 4 0v
Pin 5 0v
I have noticed that if I keep My probe on Pin 2 on R6920 and I plug in magsafe and look at the meter the voltages goes from 2.9v down to 0v
I read that q6910 common fails by shorting pin 1 and pin 2
I tested in ohms on pin 1 and pin 2 and get over 400k ohms
Is it possible that the LM397 chip i took from the other board is also faulty ?
I have gone through some voltage rails and the voltage measurements are below
PPBUS_G3H
8.3v
PPBUS_CPU_IMVP_ISNS
8.3v
PPDCIN_G3H
16.6v
PPDCIN_S5_CHGR
16v
PP3V42_G3H
3.2v
PP5V_S3
2.4v
PP5V_S0
0v
PPVCORE_S0_CPU
0V
I have replaced C7771 but made no difference
I really need some help please
I will really appreciate the help from the very talented people on the forum
Many Thanks in advance
