    HP Probook 640 G2 CAPS/NUM lock 5 blinks

    Hi

Please, i have this HP Probook 640 G2 that the CAPS/NUM lock blinks 5 times and powers off.

According to the blink code, it is a system board failure. Any ideas where to check for faults?

There was a short capacitor near one of the 3v/5v power regulator which has been replaced.

        Thank you SteveB

There are number of possibilities, correct me if i am wrong

1- short in motherboard like power supply shortage
        2- BAD RAM
3- RAM voltage is missing DRAMPOWR like signal i don't remember correctly
4- BIOS chip itself is faulty , we can check bios chip faulty or not by checking resistance in between pin 4 ground and pin 8 VCC

5- if you are not getting VCC=8 pin 3.3 volt

6- BIOS is OK but your KBC is not communicating with BIOS

7- your 1Volt voltage is not coming which is also linked to VCCSA or vCORE

By my were all power rails present. First you must check that all power rails are present on the motherboard. Do you hear also the fan at maximum. Even the supply at the cpu was present.

          Good luck

          Regards Steve
