    Lenovo ideapad 100-15IBD battery issue

Hey guys, I recently did a fresh install of windows 10 on a lenovo ideapad 100-15IBD. As soon as the freshly installed windows did its first boot I noticed the battery icon said "0% plugged in, not charging".

The battery was working fine prior to fresh install. I tried installing drivers but no success.

Doing a web search, this seems to be a common issue. I tried puling out battery + cmos battery, pressing power button and re-plugging everything back. On initial boot it say "plugged in, charging" but after a minute or so turns back to "0% plugged in, not charging". Restarting does not change anything. Tried uninstalling driver in windows manager, still nothing.

Laptop shuts off when charger is removed.

Battery amber led flashes quickly upon connecting charger (known good original charger used) but turns to a constant slow blink after a few seconds. As per documentation, this would indicate battery is less than 5%. I tried leaving it connected for a few hours but no luck.

Any idea what could be wrong and any potential fix please?

As always first thing to be suspected is the battery itself.

My thought exactly, but I unfortunately do not have a spare known good battery to test.

The fact that this issue only started right after a fresh install is either purely coincidental that the battery died at that very same time or could be something software related?(given that it was working fine prior).

try to charge it without turning on the laptop. try also to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant in device manager then restart the unit...

Tried, but still same issue. Even tried charging with HDD disconnected. :/

Forgot to mention in earlier post. I actually did measure voltage but forgot to post, sorry.

When charger is initially plugged in, B+ voltage on battery connector can be seen oscillating between 16V and 0V for about 20 seconds and then stays at a few mV (typically 120- 160ish mV).

I checked mosfets and caps near battery charging circuit but all seems OK. There also seems to be data activity on battery data line also.

16V is too much, u have probably shorted high side mosfet or something bad in charging circuit

Re: Lenovo ideapad 100-15IBD battery issue

That was also my conclusion, but all mosfets seem ok and not shorted. But again, I am still a bit skeptic/confused regarding a possible hardware fault as the whole charging thing started right after a fresh windows install. I did read a few comments when browsing for a root cause that other people faced similar issue.

Or I might have just been "Lucky" and something related to battery died at the same time as fresh install

Can you check the state of the battery with BatteryMon - https://www.passmark.com/products/batmon/

Did you install the lenovo ACPI driver - https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/p...r%20Management

Yes, I did install this driver also but to no avail.

Please find attached picture of battery monitor results.

Plugged in and charging -> result when windows first loads
Plugged in not charging -> result after 30ish seconds

pc start with battery only ?

is there a reset botton for the battery ?

OK, I will try that at earliest.

No, it does not. Also, if it is ON and you pull AC out it just turns off.

Battery reset button? There is a reset button to go into lenovo recovey menu, tried that but no luck.

Battery voltage = 0.808V.... This battery is just dead and needs to be replaced, try with known good one.

Re: Lenovo ideapad 100-15IBD battery issue

Found a support article - Battery may discharge when laptop is powered off or in a sleep state - ThinkPad, ideapad
                                  https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/gb/en/p...tions/ht509457

I don`t think its related to whats happened to your battery though. The BatteryMon Current capacity reading is wierd, how is it reading so low. Maybe a corrupt EC ? .Try another battery .

Re: Lenovo ideapad 100-15IBD battery issue

Read that before posting, but unfortunately no luck. I will be returning the laptop to the person as is. It is not worth time and effort to go into EC stuff.

I haven't ruled out a potentially bad battery (since everything seems to be pointing in that direction), especially the fluctuating voltage described in earlier post. Unfortunately I do not have a known good battery to test and confirm. If the person agrees to it, I might take the battery out and check for potentially dead/dying cells.

Thank you guys for your help, appreciate it

                                      Update:
Spoke to the owner and apparently he's been having battery issues for a while now but did not mention this(surprise surprise -_-). So, most likely it is a bad battery in this case and would need replacement.
