HP 15 ab584tx thermal shutdown due to IC overheating

    Model: HP pavilion 15 ab584tx
Issue: Thermal shutdown (Boot screen Error Code:90D)

I did the initial cleaning and repasting, but it would still shut down. I managed to narrow down the problem to the IC APW8858 overheating. I had the IC replaced, but within a few hours, the new IC was short. The local technician I gave it to says it may be an inherent CPU/GPU issue and may need a motherboard replacement. I want to make sure that if this board can be resurrected or it is gone beyond repair.

I'd appreciate any help or guidance on this issue. Thank you very much!

no schematics available.. try to post all the power rail.. and alw.. maybe theres a short somewhere that is why IC APW8858 is overheating a power management ic.. hp15 with i7 6th gen pro. with built in graphics and separate nvdia bga graphics ic.. APW8858 powers the i7 processor.. focus there.. maybe a short mosfets .. i7 processor rarely fail but there is always an exemption .

Laptop overheating after replacement thermal paste
        by Veyron7887
Hi. I have Asus X55C laptop from year 2013. It has i3-2328M CPU. I replaced stock thermal paste with high quality thermal paste. Before thermal paste replacement, I measured CPU temperature Around 65-70 degrees Celcius with stock thermal paste. If after the replace thermal paste, I measured CPU temperature around 80-84 degrees Celcius and fan don't stop when system is idle. I replaced the thermal paste several times but still did not change. Where is the problem?

MSI GP62MVR-7RF - weird fan / thermal issue
        by gurj1979
Hey guys, I need help with my personal MSI GP62MVR-7RF. Annoying fan / thermal issue.
Machine Idle. Fan will spin medium speed for 4 seconds, then off for 1 second. Repeat forever.
CPU and GPU are cold. No load, just sitting doing nothing.
It's clean inside, nothing blocked. New MX4 paste.
Updated BIOS, EC, and VBIOS but nothing's helped.
Schematic shows 2 thermal resistors, but they're OK.
All thermal signals are good, inc PCH.

Has anyone ever come across this ? Any idea what to do ?
Could it be a faulty CPU / PCH / KBC ? I REALLY don't want...

Dell Latitude 3510 Overheating & Fan Control Issue – Need Help
        by Ven
Dell Latitude 3510 (Intel Core i7-10510U) CPU Overheating

        Issue Description:
        1. CPU Overheating to 100°C
          • When I start the laptop from a cold state, it takes about a minute to reach temps around 80-90-100°C, and CPU thermal throttling triggers.
          • When the CPU fan is running at full speed (by disconnecting PWM and TACH cables), CPU temperature stays around 50-60°C.
          • However, when the fan is connected normally to the motherboard, it does not kick in at high temperatures.
          • I also noticed a few times that the fan kicked in for a very short time, but it does not stay on consistently.

Dell Latitude 5570 Ambient thermal sensor reading -127 Degrees C
        by Gcnewbie
Forgive me this is my first request for help on this forum, so if i've screwed up or not followed the rules i should have i apologise profusely.

I have a Dell Latitude 5570 that was randomly shutting down, on further investigation i found that the machine had been shutting down due to thermal events as noted by windows event viewer.
My investigations lead me to the dell diagnostics screen, where i found that there were two sensors out of range which had been causing the shutdowns, one of which was the GPU thermal sensor and the other the ambient sensor.
        I opened the...

MacBook Air A2337 (820-02016) USB-C Port Issue – Only Works in One Orientation (CC Line Problem?)
        by rounin
        Hi everyone,

I'm working on a MacBook Air 2020 (A2337, board 820-02016) and running into a strange USB-C issue. I've gone through quite a bit of testing and part replacement, but I'm stuck — hoping someone here can shed some light.

        🛠 Original Issue
        The machine initially wouldn't negotiate 20V over USB-C — stuck at 5V.
Diagnosis showed PP1V5_UPC0_LDO_CORE shorted to ground.

I replaced U3100 (UF400) using a donor board (A2179), and the machine powers on fine now.
