Lenovo Y50-70 (4K, no touch) - Backlight issue

    Hello,

The problem is that the backlight of my Lenovo Y50-70 (the 4K (no touch) option) stopped working. The LCD is confirmed to still work after shining a flashlight through the panel. External monitors also work. My problem started occurring after the laptop slammed shut with a little too much force, so it might be physical damage. I initially expected the ribbon connector to be the culprit, but with the LCD still functioning completely, this seems unlikely.

R375 (i.e., the 0-ohm resistor that works as a fuse for the backlight) measures 7.5V on both sides. I know the voltage should be 20V. Is there any way to diagnose whether this is a motherboard issue or a software issue?

    Bump!

I have attached the motherboard schematics for convenience. It seems that the backlight is powered via pins 38-40 of the 40-pin eDP connector. Those pins are connected via the 0-ohm resistor (R375, which acts as a fuse, and which is not blown in my case!) to the CPU_B+ net. This net is then conncected, via the EMI filters PL1101, PL1105, PL1106, to the B+ net, which I expect to be the battery output. A quick Google search tells me that the battery output voltage is 7V, which is also the voltage that I measure over R375. This forum thread (https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61690) suggests 20V to be the correct voltage for the backlight to work, but I cannot figure where that 20V comes from. What are the next steps that I should take in order to figure out what the problem is?

Thomson 50UD6306 (TCL) Backlight Issue, starts then stops, led changed
      by Cornito
      Hello Team,

I'm back with another backlight issue that I thought was simple, but it turned out to be more complex than expected.

Let me provide a brief history: The TV was working well, then one day, the backlight started and shut down. I thought I had an LED issue leading to this behavior, so I replaced the LEDs with brand new ones. However, the issue remains the same.

Next, I replaced the electrolytic capacitors attached to the LED power supply, but the results were the same. I then replaced the driver, a OB3365RP, and did it twice due to the same result....

iPad Pro 12.9 5th Gen Backlight Issue
      by cheebster
Hello, got an iPad Pro A2378 12.9 5th gen with no backlight. Got another test unit without screen, tested the screen, still no backlight with the test unit.
Figured out the backlight on the screen was bad, ordred a new backlight from mobilesentrix, *carefully replaced it* without damaging the lcd, oh well.
Final result, issue is still there, the screen has no back lights. So i'm back to square one, with 3 hours less and 100$ out, issue still on the screen.
The panel is still ok, i can see the apple in the middle of the screen when it kicks in, just no backlight.
      Anyone...

      Lenovo NM-C861 backlight issue
      by rookieme
      Hello,
the mainboard at first booted only sometimes with memory error.
After ram rework it boots fine but the new issue is no backlight.
Display did not had any issue so I guess something from the motherboard.
      At the JEDP1 I have 19V at pins 1 & 2, DISPOFF# at pin 15 is 0V and INVT_PWM at pin 16 is 2,82V.
Same values are with lid closed.
Lid switch works ok when tested with windows software.
Is there something else I'm missing?

      TCL 65C715 backlight issue
      by Cornito
      Hello team,

      I'm back with another topic.
It's a 65C715 TCL tv with backlight issue.

But the problem is a bit strange.
When I took this tv from the marketplace backlight didn't work but picture was ok.
Back at home I checked with led tester if led are alive and I can find something different in term of voltage supply => nothing

Putting all back together the tv worked fine for weeks. => Contact issue??

Few moment later the tv has started to have backlight issue back, turning off and on worked sometimes and tv was working....

Lenovo IdeaCentre AIO 520-27ICB Backlight issue
      by REpairAT
      Hi,
got this AIO with a backlight issue, it just turns on for the blink of a moment.
LED backlight stripes tested and working, no schematics available, also I couldn't find any datasheet of this responsible "554ALN" chip. I don't have a real routine with fixing these kind of issues, but maybe someone could give me a hint where to start.
As soon as the computer is turned on, 20V on the LED output. When backlight turns on, Voltage rises to 50V as it should, but immediately starts to decrease to 20V again within 30sec.
Picture of the backlight circuit and model numbers...
