How Much Voltage and AMP to inject

I have a short to ground on +VCCP line.. Since there are so many components on this , its almost impossible to track down what exactly is shorting.

I was thinking of injecting around 1 Volt with 1 amp n the vccp line to see if anything is getting warm.

    Please suggest.

Always make sure you are below the power rails nominal voltage but it is safe to start really low like with 1v 1amp as you already said.

1 Watt of heat is plenty to heat up a shorted capacitor or small chip.

If nothing heats up increase the amp and not voltage.

At 5 volts and 3 amps, it looks like there is just above 1 watt, unless I touch another pin on the same mofset near the power supply, then it jumps up to 4w, so I take it off right away.

Either way, there is no heating up of anything. I even tried canned air method.

It seems that on that mofset, I touched two pins at once and smelled that burning smell, but I didnt think you could short anything that way. Did I just kil the board completetly, or just another component?

        Any ideas?
