MacBook Pro 17" A1297 broad red Vertical Lines

Need your help.... I am working on a MacBook Pro logic board 820-2914-B. The initial problem was broad vertical all over the LCD screen. As per its known problem of these logic board models, the Video chip AMD 216-0810005 gets faulty., & in several case of mine a BGA reflow with new flux worked fine & the display turned to normal. In this case its not the same., I checked all the voltages as per the circuit diagram & in the end I had to replaced the BGA Video Chip AMD 216-0810005. I soldered the new chip on the board, still same. I took a known good chip, re-balled & soldered it on the logic board, still the same, no difference, the back light is bright & fine, & I see the blinking folder after a while. I read some forums & they say to replace the video ram chip (Set of 4) after checking all voltages are good. Then ordered brand new ram chip (x4) & installed them, no difference in video, still broad red vertical line. Did anyone come across like this problem? Now both the video chip & rams installed on the logic board are new & known good working. Kindly help & any tips towards this repair will be greatly appreciated. , am I doing something wrong???

Re: MacBook Pro 17" A1297 broad red Vertical Lines

Put the correct combination of GPU/VRAM/strapping resistor. If the GPU and the VRAM are the exact same model as original, no one messed with it before and no strapping resistors were knocked off that's not the issue though so try replacing GMUX.

Piernov., you are so helpful... Piernov do you know the correct combination of GPU/VRAM/strapping resistor?? as in your experience you must have come across these combinations a lot. I would appreciate if you provide me with the given combination IGPU/VRAM/strapping resistor series #s to make my life more easier, rather than searching online. I really appreciate all your help. Thank you.

this looks like a tipical bad bga chip. even if u have it new can probably be the cause.if video ram are the same exact chip no need to change the vram resistor.

u can however read somewere how to disable the dedicated amd chip and see if with integrated grapghics card u have all fine. if so probably bga chip is still a bad one.

I have heard this term "VRAM strapping resistor settings"..I googled it but could not find definite answers.. If someone has the time, & explain this term to all of us who are eager to know what is this "VRAM strapping resistor settings", how does it work so close with the GPU that if the setting is place wrong we will not get any video. Thanks in advance....

Info in the schematics is often not exhaustive and can be even wrong. Resistors must be checked on a working board with same GPU, same VRAM vendor and size.

Hello, I have a screen in where sometimes when I open it pop-up vertical multicolor lines (I would say the most of them are green). If I tun off and turn on the screen the lines dissapear or if I leave open the screen after approximately five minutes the lines gone. I measured the below voltages on the main PCB and on the T-CON board and the voltages are the same when it doesn’t display the vertical lines and when it displays the vertical lines. Also, I cleaned all the connectors very good with IPA. I moved back and forth the connectors and the COF tabs but the vertical lines didn't displayed...

Hello there, ive recently found an older 55inch Samsung SmartTV.
Sadly it has vertical lines at the left and one line in the middle-right.

I have already tested out the connections and have looked at the soldered ribbons of the LCD panel to see if some contacts got loose by pushing them a bit but with no success.
I have factory resetted the TV as well but also with no luck.

I am afraid that it is indeed a LCD Panel issue but there are NO scratches or any impact-marks..

A similar issue has been posted as well but also with no actual response ...

First. it has no picture at all. i solved it by covering the ckv lines using tape to to block the connections

Second. now has picture but with vertical lines that follow the image. tcon board ic overheating

tried blocking LC lines too, but same results

is it lcd panel issue or tcon board issue?...

                                  i order a t-con because i had bad colors on my SONY KDL-40V3000 :

With the new t-con the color are good but there are vertical lines on all the screen :

I've tried the old t-con and it returned to the initial issue (bad colors but no vertical lines)

Is there a way to fix the vertical lines on the new t-con ?

                                  Thank you for your help

I'm an electronics enthusiast with moderate level of competence (have a decent lab with two power supplies, microscope, DSO, hot air, good iron, can competently work at a component level on SMDs, design and solder own PCBs etc). I really enjoying fixing things and learning new stuff so took up a free 58" LED TV and have been googling and watching Youtube videos to see if I can fix this! I am happy to go down to individual component replacement/strip replacement etc - it's all in the name of learning.
