Hey guys!
I have bought this A1708 820-00840-A Macbook which had some water damage as it can be seen in the attached picture. I found one shorted cap and a blown backlight driver. After starting it up I have noticed that bluetooth is working but wifi isn't working. I began troubleshooting the problem and here's what I found:
PP3V3_S4_WLAN is present
I have 3.4V on SMC_WIFI_PWR_EN
I have 3.3V on AP_RESET_L
Diode mode readings seem to be normal, no other shorted or open lines found.
I concluded that the fault must come from the wifi chip itself, either corrosion under the chip or the chip itself.
I pulled the chip off just to find that the pads were looking absolutely fine and that there was no corrosion.
I went ahead and replaced the chip with another one, but that didn't fix the problem. Bluetooth is working but wifi not...
This is where my knowledge ends and where I have decided to ask for help.
So you are more than welcome to chime in with your expert opinions and advises!
