working USB voltages will help if a USB mouse is connected to it.
the most probable suspects are L4600, D4600, L4610, D4610, U4650. It would be good if you test them.

Here are the good voltages from the board with working USB ports:

      With USB mouse connected:
      4. 0.0mV
      3. 7.1mV without mouse moving
      2. 3.075V
      1. 5.04V

      4. 0.0mV
      3. 13.1mV without mouse moving
      2. 3.060V
      1. 5.04V

      Without USB mouse connected:
      4. 0.0mV
      3. 0.3mV
      2. 0.3mV
      1. 5.04V

      4. 0.0mV

Here are the bad voltages from the board I am fixing:

        With USB mouse connected:
        4. 0.0mV
        3. 1.0mV
        2. 4.88V
        1. 5.00V (This voltage drops to 4.95V with USB hard drive connected)

        4. 0.0mV
        3. 2.9mV
        2. 3.184V
        1. 5.00V (This voltage drops to 4.95V with USB hard drive connected)

        Without USB mouse connected:
        4. 0.0mV
        3. 0.9mV
        2. 40.0mV was around here and kept slowy rising
        1. 5.00V

        4. 0.1mV
        3. 70.0mV was around here and kept slowy rising but kept going up and down about 0.5mV and still rising
        2. 1.1mV
        1. 5.00V

these voltages are different from the healthy board's. but they do not say what is wrong. Now test L4600, D4600, L4610, D4610. It will be great if you find a faulty one.

Thanks, I found his USB repair video that was done on the same model as mine and it helped me understand the USB circuit a bit better

The filters L4600 and L4610 don't look right. The same voltage should pass through all pins. The working board has 0.3mV on all pins of L4600 and L4610.

measure voltages on L4600 and L4610 while a usb mouse is connected. In the youtube channel of Loius Rossman, there is a video on how to properly test inductors like L4600 and L4610 and what kinds of problem they might have. you should watch it. Because I am not a Macbook specialist, I cannot help much in Macbook repair.

His opinion was replace it as a multimeter can't test filters properly, so I'll test again with a USB mouse connected and see what I get.

One port randomly started working when I was measuring the voltage of its filter which I think was L4610 pin 4 was 3.0V and 4.88V on pin 3 so replacing both filters (L4600 and L4610) seems like the next step.

Success!! My YIHUA 858D arrived yesterday and I've replaced L4600 and L4610 from a dead donor board successfully

Both USB ports are now working, thank you Caspian for the tech help once again and DjBigman for referring me to Loius Rossman as his videos were a big help

Don't know why the third picture is uploading upside down.

L4600 is an EMI filter that is common to use to filter out noise on USB D+/D- lines.

We use them in our product designs all the time. The footprints do vary.

They are technically not required so you can, for now, remove this 4 pad SMD part and bridge then as straight through. Often you can apply a solder blob in series to allow for the D+ to bridge to the downstream D+ and then D- to D-.

Be sure to NOT short D+ to D-.

Then you can test again to see if the USB port is working.

The part listed in the schematic is from Murata but is very common to source from other vendors.

                              Murata DLP11S EMI filter:

DLP11SA900HL2L (believe this one should work fine)

                              hope this helps.

                                    Hi everyone!

I have a 2018 MacBook Pro (with Sequoia OS) that I've been using for years with no problem. I recently received an M2 MacBook Pro so I'm mostly using it and not the 2018 one, but since a friend of mine needs a computer, I thought I could restore my 2018 and give it brand-new-like to my friend.

I tried using the built-in tool to restore the MacBook (Settings > General > Transfer or restore > Delete) but it got stuck when trying to remove the Find Device configuration (it asked me for the password for my old Apple ID -now I use the same account but...

Hi everyone, a customer brought me an original Apple SSD (mz-jpv2560/0a4) from a 2015 MacBook Pro to ask me to recover the data. He told me that the computer was taken to the Apple center but that there was a problem with the motherboard and therefore it could not be repaired....
However they removed the SSD so for try to recover data
I tried to insert this SSD into another 2014 MacBook Pro that I had but the SSD could not be seen either from the recovery or from an operating system started from USB (BigSur or El Capitan)
I also tried with a USB adapter but nothing
                                    I also...

General question about MacBook power rails for repair.

I am looking at an A2337 and found this for the order of power rails and what they do. Can this be confirmed before I dive into hunting down power rails that do not exist or are not neccisary?
                                    • PPBUS_G3H (12.6V-12.8V)
                                      • This is the main power rail that supplies power to the entire system. Check this rail first, as it must be present for other power rails to work.
                                    • PP3V42_G3H (3.42V)
                                      • This power rail is derived from PPBUS_G3H and is used to power the SMC (System Management Controller) and other essential circuits. It should be present if PPBUS_G3H is working correctly.
                                    • PPVRTC_G3H (3.3V)
                                      • This

I’m working on one macbook air 15” m2 that was water damaged.

keyboard, lcd, microphone connectors were damaged so i’ve replaced all of them and without screen connected macbook worked fine. Keyboard &trackpad and also lid sensor was working fine.

i’ve put macbook in shelf and order new screen so i can fully repair it.

Now i got the screen and macbook stays at 5v 0a.

i’ve tried if it’s not in DFU with another macbook but it’s not detected at all.

i don’t have schematics so i don’t know where to start can someone help me?...
