Likely a liquid spill. Take it apart and show us some photos of the insides. Also if the touchpad has somehow gotten disconnected and the computer was started with it disconnected, it will need a reboot of Windows to work again, shut down will not do it.

Since W8, "shut down" just means close all apps and hibernate, it is not a "real" shutdown of the OS. That's why restarting takes longer. This behavior can be disabled in the control panel but i'll get to that later.

=Th3_uN1Qu3;769773; the keyboard works in command prompt and to get in the command prompt i can log in with admin password,i try to reset it but it tells me partion is missing, this laptop has been run by kids so i think they deleted some files that can be recovered.

Ok, so it is a software issue. You can try downloading an appropriate ISO from the Microsoft site, boot from it and run a repair or "refresh", you do not need a license key for that as with Win8 and newer laptops it is stored in the BIOS and automatically picked up by Windows.

Hi guys: new update on Asus x551c,after much grief with this Laptop i've finely got it running like new.
i 've downloaded Microsoft download tool and made a Win8 ISO and burned it to a DVD and went to see if i could repair system,repair/refresh/restore but never could never do it due to existing corrupted files in the existing OPS,but after trying all means on the Repair, restore,i gave up and went with full install way which was a success, thanks for all your support.
