Hello everybody:
Let me put all the laptop's info before describing the problem:
BRAND: MSI
MODEL No.: MS-17E7
SKU: GL75 Leopard 10SEK-261XES-BB71075H16GXXDXX
MoBo: MS-17E71 VER. 1.0
This laptop arrived to fix the broken left hinge, due to a hit. The hinge was repaired, and when I went to check it out, everything worked well, but I observed certain artifacts (mainly random lines) in the screen. So I decided to remove the screen bezel again, and I saw certain damage to the main LCD harness.
This time I also observed that the right hinge was also almost loose, so I decided to fix it up also (until then, the only thing I removed was the plastic bezel of the screen). But when I needed to change the harness by the new one, obviously I removed the back cover, installed the new harness, and with both hinges repaired and the new harness installed, I closed everything.
I turned on the laptop, everything was fine (both hinges and screen's image), BUT only a very few keys worked (very few). Of course, the keyboard wasn't damaged at all.
After several tests of the original keyboard with no luck and no changes at all, I decided to order a new keyboard (in my mind something told me that the problem was not the keyboard, but in spite of it, I ordered a new one).
The new keyboard arrived, but the effect is exactly the same: keys not working, and the very few working ones are the same as in the original keyboard. The RGB part of both keyboards works perfectly well.
I searched here for the schematic, but I only saw the boardview for this model, so I decided to buy the schematic (and share it here). But after looking at all voltages, EC, BIOS, etc., I am not able to detect any failure. Of course, the trackpad and its associated buttons are working, and you can use an external keyboard without problems.
But I'm desperate because I didn't see any causes for this failure. Of course, I removed all the flat cables going to the MoBo, and I leaved only the one of the keyboard. I tested this one by one, and all at the same time. Only with battery, only with original charger, with lab PSU, removing the LCD cable from the MoBo and using and external HDMI monitor...nothing!. Same (d)effect.
I beg your help. If any of you here have any idea, please let me know, and I will test it. It will be great, because my brain is empty of ideas to this regard. Of course, I carefully inspected with the microscope all the MoBo for broken or faulty components, and everything's fine. New and clean as from factory.
Thanks in advance for your invaluable help. If somebody needs any kind of information regarding this laptop, please let me know. My client is desperate too!.
