Does anybody know how the USB polyfuse/resettable fuse is implemented in a dell inspiron 14z 5423? Mine suffered a USB port short sometimes ago(power surge has occured on this port blah blah). After that, I could no longer connect my phone storage or flash drive to the USB port, but the port was still supplying as I could charge my phone, and as well confirmed with a DMM. I unplugged the laptop and removed the battery as well as the CMOS battery and left the board lying for a day before putting it back together. It worked. Couple of hours later, same thing happened again, but this around the original fix failed to work, even after abandoning the laptop for about a week! The DVD player is bad, otherwise I could have tried to format the system with Windows.
I've tried reinstalling the drivers to no avail, even the enhanced host controller, still same outcome. In some other laptops I've worked on, the fuse is very explicit, and I've had some success simply bridging them appropriately or swapping them out. But this motherboard doesn't seem to have a clearly defined fuse component on the USB line.
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
