Sometimes, one of those piles of turd comes in where the repair costs more than the laptop is worth, but the owner wants to fix it anyway. So i fix it. This is a fairly troublesome chipset being both very large and very fragile. Fortunately, it all went smoothly and the machine is up and running again.

Actually this has been done on an IR machine. I still use the hot air wand for attaching the balls to the chip though.
I have changed workplaces 2 months ago. Much better pay, more space and all the tools i need at my disposal.
The rework station isn't anything to write home about though, it's a Puhui TX-999. I had to do some mods to the bottom as it took bloody ages to get the board to a reasonable temperature with the bottom heat alone, but other than that it does OK. It's still mostly manual as it does not support profiles, only holding a set temperature once it is reached.
It's got this weird kind of "lamp" for the top heater that produces no visible light, only heat (IR), it does not use a ceramic plate for the top heater. The top heater is surprisingly mild compared to say an ACHI. No blistered or warped chips so far.
I'll be adding a camera and light to it soon so i can supervise the process better, without having to stare at the chip from close by when i reattach it to the board.Originally posted by PeteS in CARemember that by the time consequences of a short-sighted decision are experienced, the idiot who made the bad decision may have already been promoted or moved on to a better job at another company.Comment

by Xenon-CodexThe freebie laptop started to give error "BIOS wait EC input buffer empty fail (timeout). What does it mean, empty CMOS battery?
It boots if I press F1, the Bios also works, but it hangs for 1 second about 10 times a minute. So does the touchpad in Windows, USB-mouse works normally. -

hi all,
I suffered a power outage when updating bios and bricked the machine, no recovery possible. then i made a pretty big mistake by erasing the bios chip with my CH341a before getting a proper read and verify. fujitsu provide a BIOS "admin pack" to recover with which contains a stock .ROM file however this file is approx 64mb which is twice the size of the bios chip. any help is greatly appreciated,...-

by reformattHave another shop bring in a Fujitsu E557 where they chose to do Windows optional updates. One of these was a BIOS update to V1.16. After applying, it got into a reboot loop and he pulled the power. Now the power light comes on, then a few others, attempts to power on and switches off.
Seems this maybe an issue with this update as it's already been reported by someone else on their forum. Fujitsu told them to replace the board (ha ha).
Anyway, Fujitsu at least have the V1.18 BIOS update available and there's a BIOS ROM in it. File size is different to that extracted in...-
