Dell Inspiron N5030 Will not turn on!

I have a Dell inspiron N5030 that will not power on. External supply turns green, but when you press power button, nothing. A complete nube here when it comes to computer repair so be patient with me. Have no idea where to start. Thanks for all the help in advance, George

Being an N5030 it's Intel. If it were an M5030 it would be AMD.

one or two pins of the switch reads 3 volts in respect to ground.
the other one or two is/are ground. so pressing that power button shorts 3v to ground sending a signal to turn the machine on

I do have 3.2v on pin one of the switch connector, the rest
of the pins are giving me readings in the milli volt range. I also saw a white light on , on the front edge of the laptop, the other two dark. It did go out after awhile though. How can I check the output of the power supply for its voltage?

I checked the switch connector, I have 3.2v on first pin. Also checked power supply connector I have 19.75v on pin one 3.2 on middle pin, and 19.75 om third pin. While just messing around, I unpluged the power supply, checked battery in there and plugged back the power supply and on she came. I have no clue what i did but it came on, what I noticed is that fan wasn't running, and it would not respond to the power switch itself, was on for about half to 45 min. I wanted to put keyboard back on so I unplugged and pulled battery, now no matter what I do can't get back on. I guess there is some hope for this unit after all. what to do next????

Gentlemen ,Is there a way to force the computer on by using the pin with the 3.2v and jump to the pin thats grounded on the connector. I think I may have done that while probing around with my meter checking voltages? computer did come on for a few seconds. where to go from here?

update, actually working on computer now. I jumped the 3.2v to ground and computer is running as we speak, I guess I have a bad switch to find and change. where can I locate a new one, can this one be fixed. How do you test the switch itself, Thanks again for your help

With the computer off and unplugged, put your multimeter on buzzer. One probe goes to the pin you found the 3.2v on, the other goes on any of the other pins. Hold the probes in place and push the button. If the beeper does not beep, then the switch is bad.

Using a contact cleaner spray on the switch may get it back in operation for a while, but it won't last long.

I have no idea where you can actually buy switches, i always scavenge them from other boards.
